Multiple football assistant coaching jobs open

The university is advertising for three openings on the football staff.

Defensive line coach - https://careers.pageuppeople.com/856/cw/en-us/job/495607/assistant-coach-football-defensive-line

Tight ends/recruiting coordinator - https://careers.pageuppeople.com/85...ach-football-tight-endsrecruiting-coordinator

It's July. It seems really late to be advertising for any part of the football staff, especially full-time position coaches. One might be understandable - things happen. But three? What's going on? Looks like Delbert Tyler definitely left, as he's with Army West Point now. Greg Hardin was the receivers coach and John Faircloth was the defensive line coach. Are they gone? Moving positions?

Hoops roster set

Kam Farris, Enoch Cheeks and Khaliel Spear are the confirmed returning players. Walk-on Chase Cook is also back.

RMU Football

Jamal Hill, a 2021 recruit, WR/ATH from Kell High School in Marietta, GA announced today on twitter that he is 100% committed to Robert Morris University. Hill appears to be a noteworthy recruit for the Colonials as he was a two time all-state player with a 3 Star rating by 247 Sports, 2 Star by Rivals. This past December the Colonials announced that QB Corbin LaFrance and WR Jalon Brown, both of Kell High School signed during the early signing period. LaFrance looks to be a gifted passer who was probably overlooked by bigger D-1 programs due to his size. Hill, LaFrance and Brown look to be three solid recruits, all from the same high school.

RMU picked up a grad transfer from Lehigh last month, Divine Buckrham. He is a DB and was a team captain this past season. The Colonials should benefit from his experience, knowledge and leadership. Also, last month, Anthony Purge, a grad transfer from Marist announced he will be joining the RMU football team. Purge is a RB, he did not put up impressive stats during his time at Marist, but he appears to be a shifty back with some speed.

If anyone has any other RMU football news, please share it here.

Interesting and important year for basketball recruiting

Free agency in college basketball is wide open. Seniors, rather than being out of eligibility can play another year of college ball. D-1 teams are still limited to 13 scholarship players, but less slots will be open to freshman and JUCO transfers with players sticking around for another year. As of now the Colonials have seven players on the roster that could return, not counting the possibility that Jon Williams and Charles Bain could also return. With the two transfers, Winston and Stone in place, plus an early signee, Jeffries, the Colonials would appear to have three scholarships available. Considering that players from all level of programs are announcing daily they are entering the transfer portal, I will not be surprised if RMU loses another player or two, maybe three. With Winston, Stone and Jeffries it appears Coach Toole is bringing in high quality basketball players. This is a year for all programs, especially low and mid majors, to recruit better talent than is typical in most years due to the same number of scholarships yet not all seniors are moving on. I can see the possibility of RMU grabbing a grad transfer that can make a difference next season, but I would not want more than one player that will be a definite one and done. I really want to see a couple of high quality shooters make their way to Moon Township. It appears free agency is going to be a way of life in college basketball. RMU and the Northeast Conference teams were ahead of the curve in that regard. Go Colonials!

Apparently not COVID issues.

Cam Wilbon transferring

Looks like Cam Wilbon is out, looking for other opportunities.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Toole remake this team a little bit. They were close to competing, and you'll always wonder what if they hadn't had so many stoppages because of COVID. But I think there might be a few guys who aren't Horizon League level.
