5 game win streak

Thought I'd liven up this board a bit by recapping the recent 5 game winning streak we've been on. Man did we earn every single one of them.

Wright State: Tough 3 point win at home. Survived a scare at the end when WSU hit a 3 at the buzzer which would have forced OT but after review it was deemed too late.

Green Bay: Phoenix shot the lights out at the start and took a 17 point lead but after they cooled off we cut the lead to 5 by halftime and then proceeded to go on a 28-0 run to start the 2nd half en route to a dominant victory.

Milwaukee: Arguably the most impressive win we've had since moving to the Horizon. Currently valued as a Q2 according to the NET. Dickerson with another one of his signature spikes to deny a would-be OT-forcer at the end.

YSU: Another great performance on the road, this one against our newfound rivals. Thought we were going to blow it at the end but Kam came up clutch with the coast-to-coast layup to pull out the W.

Oakland: Back at home, this one was close throughout. Luckily they bailed us out at the end with the foul. 5 wins in a row.

That puts us at 7-4 in the conference, currently in a tie for 4th. Obviously, no game can be overlooked, but it is encouraging that we still have 2 games against IUI, and home games against GB and UDM. Primary goal at this point should be a top 4 finish, which would guarantee us a bye and a home quarterfinal. This team has (finally) a roster that can compete with anyone in the HL and a coach who can put the pieces together. Let's hope we can keep this thing going through the last 9 games of the season and beyond.

MBB Commits

After getting DII transfer Josh Omojafo in mid-April, the Colonials finally have a few more commitments to help refill the roster. SG Ryan Prather Jr has come over from Akron to join Josh at the 2. Both are 6'5. 6'7 Juco SF Amarion Dickerson has also joined the fold.

Coach Toole and crew still have a lot of work to build out the roster. Signing a PG and a PF is critical.

RMU 2024 Recruiting

I haven't seen any transfer portal commitments yet. However RMU did get 4 early high school signings. A CB, LB, WR and OLineman. They also got 2 high school QB commitments recently (Which would give them 6 QB's?). Does the move back to the NEC signal less transfer portal activity? In Coach Clark's latest interview he suggested they were focused on DB in the portal because of recent losses. He also said they had about 10 transfer players coming down this past weekend, but I didn't really see anything more about that. Guess it will pick up more here in the next few weeks.

Kevin Martina

I do not recall hearing any news about Martina, however I noticed he has not played. He is no longer on the roster, though I thought he was listed at the beginning of the school year. Verbal Commits has him enrolled. Doing some research it appears he is already back home playing in the Swiss SB League.

Clark?

Should be interesting to know if Coach Clark will be retained. Assuming he had a 5 year contract or 4 with a COVID gratuity. Yes, things have improved a bit from last year's abomination, but its hard to say the program is improving. The implosion of the Big South didn't help. Until RMU finds a comfortable and stable football conference to call home, I think they'll always have a hard time. You have to wonder if there's a glass ceiling for football at RMU with it being the 3rd fiddle men's sport, a resources mismatch for most FCS conferences in the region, and facilities. Clark has a fire in him that's impressive and I've never heard a bad thing about him as a person - but that's normally not enough to keep coaches around anymore. Of course, if he has years left on his contract, RMU isn't exactly in the financial situation to pay him out.

RMU Football @ Air Force

The 2023 season is here.

RMU Heads West To Open 2023 Season

Just like everyone else, excited to finally see a Depth Chart.

Two Deep vs. Air Force

Looking at the 2-Deep in the last game vs. Bryant in 2022 and the new 2-deep for 2023:

DL:
Garret Fairman (6-2, 230lbs) returns. RMU rotates DL throughout the game and have certain packages as well.
Noah Steverson (6-3, 275lbs) listed as a returning starter at DL and Bernadin Fleurima, Jr. (6-0, 285lbs) goes from backup to starter. Parker Jacobs (6-4, 260lbs) takes over at the other DE position.

LBs:
Tony Brown (6-3, 200lbs) returns as a listed starter and great to see Shegog (6-2, 230lbs) and Casale (6-2, 230lbs) back in the lineup. RMU should be loaded at LBs this year.

DBs:
Gregory Young III (5-11, 170lbs) returns and some new names in the secondary. Will be interesting to see how this unit comes together this year.

Offense:
OL: 2022 LT Diego Turcios (6-4, 300lbs) moves from LT to RT. Riley Kemper (6-5, 290lbs) takes over at LT now.
LG, C, RG all return.
Last season the OL was an issue. 2023, OL could be the strength of the team. When RMU has a solid OL with no injuries, they win games.

Landen Lucas (6-3, 230lbs) takes over at TE.

New names with good measurables at WRs against Air Force. Parker Fetterman (5-9, 175lbs) returns which will help new QB, Tyler Szalkowski (6-2, 220lbs). RMU has struggled at the QB position and hopefully Tyler can offer stability.

And finally, some size at the RB position with Kimon O'Sullivan (5-11, 178lbs) getting start with Day Day Jones (5-10, 188lbs) as the backup.

Special Teams should be very strong for RMU and could win games for RMU.
