Thought I would keep the new tradition and start a new thread for the week.

Any word on where the QB roulette wheel is stopping this week? I am guessing Carroll again, but I wondering if Barr or Chase are healthy enough to go? I am not sure they can both get medical red shirts or not if they do not play rest of year. From last weeks radio show, sounded like R-chak is out for the year, and I think the same with Brumbaugh.

Hopefully Satcher is back to full strength though, I thought Wells looked great at RB. Satcher is a guy though you have to try to get the ball to, he can just flat out break one anytime.

If Carroll is indeed the man, hopefully another week of 1st team reps in practice and film work will allow him to see more of the field and make some big plays. I think we are going to have score a few to keep up with SHU.

I've never seen a team right the injury bug as much as these guys do at rmu? Is it because of the way they train or lack thereof? Is it because of certain drills they run? Or is it just plain bad luck? I have seen injuries before, but not to the extent this team gets consistently

I am pretty sure they were really beat up early in camp this year, and I think that is when at least Barr and Mason went down.

I think someone on here mentioned it, but also I think I heard on radio show, that they did not hit a lot of camp because of all the injuries. If you are not going live, you are not going full speed. Even with that, games are faster than practice. So some of the mistakes from early on could be attributed to that.

Why were there so many early injuries, I guess I do not know the answer to that. Could be a number of things, and different for every injury.

Not that it takes a rocket scientist to figure out, but when you have to play so many QB's, it takes time for each of them to get up to the speed of the game. I am really thinking we might see significant improvement from Carroll this week.

Anyone know status on Derian Smith? I think he will be a force in the future, haven't seen much of him lately but do not recall him getting hurt. May have missed it.

I believe it was the night game against Malone and he got hurt.

K thanks ORMC. Not that I am best judge , but he looks like a player to me.

Some stats I found interesting, probably because I am bored.
Fewest Penalty Yards per Game
SHU: Rank-111 83.50 ypg
RMU: Rank-96 69.43 ypg
Hopefully RMU remain disciplined and keep the flags down, SHU is apparently very susceptible to giving up free yards.

Fumbles lost
SHU – 2
RMU – 2
Hopefully RMU can get some fumbles, both teams have done well holding onto the ball.

Rushing Defense
SHU: Rank 31 127 YPG

Passing D
SHU: Rank 31 189 ypg

Total Defense
SHU: Rank 16 317 ypg
RMU: Rank 42 366 ypg

So, their D is good. Hard for me to say better than RMU, but they will not be easy to move the ball on.

Total Offense
SHU: Rank 23 236ypg
RMU: Rank 122 145 ypg
We all know the issues with the O, guess I did not realize how bad, the 122 ranking is out of 122 in FCS. Dead last. On a positive note, the only place to go is up!!

I am going to stop looking up stats now, because I was feeling much more confident before I started ha!

Still think the boys have a chance if Carroll can make the right reads and the line can hold. As always, seems like we might need a D or Special teams TD to keep us in this one.

Because I am bored, I watched the DUQ game again and it got me thinking about something that was mentioned the other day about Banny telling Richardson last year to only pass on 3rd down.

I looked at the play by play quickly and did a quick tally on somethings I found interesting.. (might not be 100% accurate as I did this quickly, so feel free to nit pick).

On first down, Looks like Carroll was 1-3 passing, the completion fell into my 6-10 category.

They ran it 11 times on first down. 4 resulted in losses, 6 resulted in 0-5 yards, 1 resulted in 6-10 yards.

On second down, Carroll was 5-7, 2 sacks, one pick. One of the sacks was 2nd and 16 and the other was on a 2-14. So both of sacks were set up by the previous either a poor run on first down, a penalty, or a little of both. The TD pass to Tim Vecchio was on a 2nd 13. 2 of the completions were for 20+ yards, both to Edwards and both on 2nd down. One was for 25 yards on a 2nd and 3, and the 65 yard TD was on 2nd and 7.

On third down, Carroll was 1-6, the one completion was for 0-5 yards. I do recall at least 1 drop on third down early by Anu. RMU ran it 2 times on third down (by my count, seems low), 1 run was negative, and 1 was for 0-5 yards.

Looks like they only went for it on 4th on the final drive, incomplete pass.

A lot of this is probably obvious just from watching, but I really think to succeed on O, you need to keep the D guessing. Can not be that run heavy on 1st down.

Also, just 2 sacks allowed against the Dukes. That is probably lowest for the year. I think this is due to the Oline getting significantly better, but also Carroll seemed to be able to step in pocket a few times to avoid sacks and get rid of it a little quicker than we have seen.

QBs that step up and release quickly cure a lot of problems. If we hit a few of the under routes instead of trying for 9 routes and hit the curls, RB in flats and drags it opens up even more. Joe was a real step in what we needed and will need in the future to be successful.

M4 - I completely agree. After watching game again, I think coaches need to get maybe a little more aggressive in pass/run mix, and Carroll with another week... you never know.

Not to keep harping on coaches, but why was Carroll 5th on depth chart? Anyone have insight into that?

I would understand if they played who they thought was the future QB ahead of him after Barr and Brumbaugh got hurt. And I have posted this a few times, I think R-Chak played his heart out, in a tough spot, but he is not a FCS QB. I do not mean to be rude or anything, because I am thankful he is a Colonial like I was. He is a hell of a teammate.

So I guess in short, I am saying, if you are playing a young guy who you are trying to develop and he struggles in his first year (Tim Levy), everyone gets why you play him instead of a graduating player. However, when you get to where these Colonials were, and are, why the heck don't you give this kid a shot?

I do not want to predict where RMU would be if he was starting since game 2, but I would think better. Again, not to harp on coaches, but another very strange choice made.
