I haven't gotten to check out Youngstown yet this season however I did see that they walloped Duquesne and had wvu tied at 14 at halftime in Morgantown. What is everybody's thoughts or prediction this weekend?

Continue to show some offensive improvements, try to be competitive and get the hell out healthy.

I would agree with M4Fam. Staying healthy is huge. My other thought is it would be nice to see the Offense put together some nice drives, eating up clock and yards. Also, it would be huge for the O to get a TD. They really need to prove to themselves that they can do it, and Youngstown is probably the best team on schedule this year, and to do it against them should give them confidence.

On D I hope they keep doing their thing. The only thing that seems to be an issue (at least as far as I can see) is completitons across the middle. Hopefully they can limit some of those.

Does anyone know if we have any walking wounded coming back?

Also, seems like Nic Lamica was not used much (at all?) last week. Is he hurt? I've thought that he is a heck of a player so hopefully he is OK.

It appears that Nic Lamica requested to be moved back to defense. It seems that they coaches did this but now he is buried deep in the depth chart.

Just curious - are any D linemen, TE or anyone else working with the OL? It appear that we are so thin on the OL, that if a couple of more guys go down we could have a real problem.

GoRMU, I thought about that after week 1, I know the Dline seems to be deep with all the rotating they appear to do, but if Swiss Steve is out, that certainly hurts their depth. Some of you might have a better grasp on the depth of Dline and TE position and who could be an option for a possible switch.

That is interesting with Nic Lamica. I think he played D his freshman year and was pretty darn good from what I recall, but I am getting old and may be thinking of someone else. Seems like as good as an athlete he is, Farrison will find a role for him.

Thanks for info. I think you probably right regarding the QB situation this week. Would just love for Barr to get live action before Malone, but in the grand scheme of things for this team, this year, no need to rush him if he is borderline.

I'm betting Barr stays out for this week. dtart Joe Carrol this week. Let'em Rip!!!

What's the status of chase bodeman? I noticed he hasn't gotten a shot yet and he was highly touted coming in. Rivals 3 star recruit, had a few FBS offers and chose rmu. Is he injured? Has he not learned the offense? Are they redshirting him? I was just curious

I think ORMC said they want to Redshirt him.

Just a thought, if Barr is out for a while, why not give Bonderman a shot? There is still a lot of the season left. I just think you play who gives you the best shot to win. If that means burning a redshirt, then so be it.

With the line improving, I think you stay with Romanchak... I wish the weather would have given us a couple more touches on O. Though we aren't lighting up the score board, yet, I still wouldn't throw the Fresh to the wolves of YSU...

Any word on Fiadewornu's injury?

Going out on a limb here and saying let Chase Bodeman get the reps and start this week. If Barr is out and still injured there is no need to bring him back this week against the best team on the schedule let him rest one more week and come back against Malone then ready for the conference.

I have the utmost respect for Andrew Romancheck as he was thrown in to a very difficult situation and by all accounts has handled himself extremely well. But we are kidding ourselves if we think he is a Division 1 quarterback. No blame on Andrew at all giving the hand he was dealt. I want to take a different approach and take a look at this staff's recruiting and development of the QB Position since there arrival :

Paul Jones - Left team due to academics

Luke Brumbaugh - Has he progressed since his freshman year starts ??

Derek Abbott - Left team after multiple position switches

Marcus Prather - Left team after multiple position switches and I believe is somewhere at a Division 2 school

Joe Carroll - WPIAL record holder but has not translated to the college ranks

Reid McCoy - Highly touted coming in started one game which he lasted a couple series and then has since left the program.

Tyler Brown- Started multiple games last season including a relief appearance at wagner but has since left and I believe he has stopped playing football all together ???

Matt Barr - I was hopeful coming into the season that a spring under coach miller would elevate his game but we have yet to see him in action this season. Jury still out on him.

Andrew Romanchak - Recruited as a defensive player to RMU after a successful highschool career at Freeport.

Chase Bodeman - Piggy backing off the previous poster - 3 star on rivals appeared to have multiple division 1 offers. Is it a lack of knowledge of the offense or is the staff really trying to redshirt and put some distance between him and Matt Barr.

Just some thoughts on this hump day. As always Go Colonials

That’s a great breakdown by Colonial_Fanatic.

I agree with Confusion23 that it would be very, very tough for Chase against YSU for first start. However, I view it is an opportunity, to see how he handles adversity and I think we would get to see how elusive he can be scrambling. I can though, see arguments both ways.

Some additional random QB thoughts:

Not sure what the coaching staff sees with Carrol, I thought from his HS numbers he would be playing more. Not sure what’s going on there, coaches see him every day and must see something they don’t like. Anybody have any info on him?

One thing that I think currently really hurts the QB development is the lack of designated Quarterbacks Coach. I assume Miller is working with QBs, but as an OC he has a lot of responsibilities.

I also agree with Colonial_Fanatic that Romancheck seems like heck of a good kid. From the outside looking in, seems like he really exemplifies what you would want in a teammate. Switch positions, gives it all he has and, as was mentioned, was put in a really tough spot. He just seems like he has a great team first mentality. Guys with that kind of attitude are what it takes to win games.

I know I have said it before, but if Chase gives the team the best chance to win, play him. It is as simple as that to me. I know you burn a year of eligibility, but the coaches should have faith that they can recruit another to QB that can fill that void.

So you will burn his redshirt now to throw him to the wolves against YSU, arguably the toughest team on the schedule, only so Barr can return against Malone, arguably the weakest team on our schedule? That just don't make sense.

My take as an outsider looking in is they have a log jam at QB with a bunch of similar kids. Barr is only a sophomore, Brumbaugh a junior, and Romancheck a sophomore. I believe the original intent with Bodeman was to let him come in, learn the system, and perhaps duke it out next year with Barr and Brumbaugh.

Game one comes around and Barr gets hurt. No big deal, insert Brumbaugh and lets go, then Murphy's law took over and Brumbaugh goes down. Now we have a converted DB once HS QB inserted with the thought Barr might return soon, still no need to burn Bodeman's redshirt.

I believe today they are realizing Barr's injury might be more substantial than what was originally thought and Brumbaugh will not be back for weeks. Perhaps it is time to burn the redshirt.

I commend the staff. At some point, we have to develop depth. At some point we have to be a junior/senior laden team.

Also, keep in mind, although it has not seemed like it through two games this offense is complex. The returnees have had since the spring to consume and digest the playbook. Bodeman has had since August 1. If they do burn Bodeman's redshirt then I'd look for him to be the guy.

Although Barr showed glimpses of being good last year, he also showed some poor decision making. I do believe he has all the tools. My only problem with the current group of QB's is they all seem just happy to be there. You do not see that drive you get from a really competitive QB. I have yet to see Bodeman other than his highlight film and if he gives us an "edge" then have at it. On film he certainly looks to be our most athletic QB.

Original RMC maybe you can help me out here but is this not the last year of contracts for Coach Banaszak and staff ? I thought when he took over it was three year deal ?

If that's the case with everything that has happened in the first two years and now the first two weeks of the season. You have to go with the guy that gives you the best shot to win regardless if that is burning a redshirt on a kid.

From an outsiders / fan perspective tell me what has looked different from the first two years on offense to the first two weeks of this season ? 62 yards of total offense last week and zero points from the offense in the first two weeks of the season.

I am a fan of the local talent that this staff has targeted over the last two years, is it a lack of development on the offensive side of the ball ?

That is an interesting point regarding the contract situation.

The one constant, and a real positive, with the coaching staff has been Farrison. As long as he is here, I think the D will be good to great year in and year out. He knows his stuff and really has kept RMU in games. I think he has learned a lot from Bad Rad over the years and has really developed into a top notch Coach that Robert Morris is lucky to have.

Benny was really great also, but now is HC at Westminster I think.

Uhm, yeah scratch my previous statement!!! LOL!! If Chase has the ability presented in that highlight real on this next level... Give him the reigns!

Farison, you talking about one awesome gentleman and coach. His kids play very hard for him obviously, proves he knows his stuff. This D is electric, could be special you know, if they could rest a lil more in the game... I think he'll have a lil something early for the Penguins!

Lots of data being thrown around so let me catch up some.
QBs - the goal, per the staff, is to RS Chase. There was talk during the Dayton game that we could see Chase but you weight out your options...waste a RS on one game and then Barr comes back. I was informed that Barr could have played against Dayton but he wouldn't have been no where near 100%. Rest him and bring him back against YSU. I don't agree with that. Right now, we are no where near the level of YSU and most because of depth (another topic I will address).
I say start Barr if he is 100% and can take shots. If there is any doubt with the staff, you rest him for Malone. You roll with Romancak and Carroll while keeping Chase on the bench.

Banny's Contract - this is the final year of his contract. This is the money year for the staff. They must turn this season around. They know that. I'm sure there is a lot of talk that this game is the game where we decide whether we burn redshirts or not. If Chase right now gives our offense better success, then you must start him. The goal is to win the NEC event if you go 0-5 in non-conference. If Chase over the next 3 games can improve this offense, then he will play. This staff can't worry about next season because there might not be a next season for them.

I just went and bought a white horse for Chase to ride in on at YSU. Start him he's the only 2016 recruit they haven't played!!!

If Chase starts it will greatly influence my "Homer" NEC Pick'em for Week 3.

I'm calling it now YSU is sleeping and Chase pulls a True Freshman, David and Goliath like performance for an RMU WIN!!!

Think back to week one Texas vs Notre Dame and true freshman Shane Buechele. With a true freshman center as well.

It can happen. WE GOTTA BELIEVE!!! LETS GO BOBBY MO!!!!

Excellent points on the QB position. I'll comment on that as well, but I'll also add this list from a post last year going into the 2015 season. These were the OL/TE's that did not return:

Austin Brown-TE
Marcus Coury-OL
Steven Barnes-OL
Chris O'Connor-OL
Jonah Tyus-OL
Mitch Morrison-OL
Riley Feenan-OL
Justin Kempka-TE

Add to that Thiel and Lucian not coming back in 2016. That's at least 10 bodies in 2 seasons that did not come back. Add the losses to graduation and It should be no surprise that the OL has struggled. The real question is why is this happening? It's hard to develop players and continuity when athletes keep leaving early.

As for the QB situation, I posted often last year about how mismanaged the position has been for years and it has certainly been the main factor in the recent woes at RMU.
Jeff Sinclair is the last RMU QB to play out his eligibility. Since then, Paul Jones, Matt Layman, Marcus Prather, Derik Abbott, Tyler Brown and Reid McCoy have all left early. Jones was handed the keys based on potential, which he certainly had but as mentioned, academic issues cut his time short. Both Brumbaugh and Barr were handled with the same poor philosophy. Both were given the starting job in spring without benefit of either ever taking a college snap. Both were exposed to little if any pressure, competition or adversity in spring or fall camp but were then expected to step up and perform having not been properly prepared to do so. Neither was groomed or developed for the experience. And no RMU QB has had a true QB coach to work with and fall back on in that time. It should be no surprise then that both young men had eerily similar first seasons (under 50% completions, a paultry 100 yds/gm and 3 times as many INT's as TD's). Of course the offense will struggle. I've said it many times on here that the single best way to destroy a young QB is to throw them to the wolves before they are ready. And once you ruin them it can be difficult to get them back. If RMU goes to Bodeman just to "kick the tires" and he's not ready, this is simply Groundhog Day.

Other than the highlight video from High School, has anyone seen much of Chase play in practice or have heard how he is doing?

Good note about the lack of the true QB coach. Not saying that Miller can't coach QBs but I looked at our staff.
http://rmucolonials.com/coaches.aspx?path=football&

We have 5 coaches on each side. But do we really need two linebacker and two secondary coaches?
I'm not saying someone needs to be fired but if there is one major position on the team and perhaps the most important position and we don't have a coach for that.

I always compare RMU to Monmouth being that Monmouth started football in 93 and RMC in 94.
Monmouth's Off Coor is also their QB coach so I guess this is common at the mid-tier FCS level.

"And no RMU QB has had a true QB coach to work with and fall back on in that time.
