We're still a bit away from spring ball taking place, but now that signing day is past, I was thinking about what the two-deep depth chart might look like for spring.

I'm not sure who all is gone outside of the seniors, so if anyone has a correction to this, please let me know.

Albany used a 4-3 defense and a lot of 3 wide receiver formations, so I went with those as the standard lineups.

OFFENSE
QB - Jimmy Walker // Caleb Lewis
RB - Terence Stephens // TJ Neal
WR - Tavin Allison // Delano Madison
WR - Tim Vecchio // Warren Robinson
WR - Brandon Magee // Andrew Romanchak
TE - Matt Gonzalez // Steve Petrick
LT - Rene Rodriguez // Trevor Hicks
LG - Matthew Fennell // Alex Minford
C - Eric McAllister // Bussy Remaley
RG - Connor Mundy // John Sheldon
RT - Dylan Young // Adam Sedzmak

DE - Chris Stanford // Izon Pulley
DT - Amir Fenwick // Justus Stubblefield
DT - Anthony Lang // Abraham Scotland
DE - Derian Smith // Greg Rose
OLB - Tyler Lamica // Gee Stanley
MLB - Adam Wallet // Brayden Thimons
OLB - Gerald Ferguson // Devon Defrances
CB - Travon Stott // Barry Amos
SS - Jon Muehlbauer // Kirby Ames
FS - Mylea Canton // Alex Kwasinewski
CB - Heavon Price // Tevaul Brown

K - Nick Bisceglka
P - Adam Check

A lot of experience back, but I'm curious to see who might shine in front of a new coaching staff and how quickly some freshmen might play.

Thoughts from anyone else? Someone missing? Someone transfer?

Gee Staley is gone.

They do plan to use a 4-3

That's unfortunate about Stanley. Had hoped he'd be back after missing last year.

Given the graduation losses/departures at linebacker, seems like the right time to move to a 4-3 anyway.

Gerald ferguson is gone I believe and Mike lamb is back at DT. I think Chris Stanford is gone too

You're probably right, I've been outta the loop for a while. I just remember Gerald ferguson walking on senior day, and Mike lamb didn't so I assumed he was staying

Bad news on Stanley, just didn't seem like it was going to work out long term with him.

Great news that Stanford is back. That
Young man busts his a$$ always.

Will be interesting how they use tight ends. Seem like we have some good ones. I still think Dalton from GA is gonna be pretty darn good.

Would love to hear what anyone might know about the oline development.

whoever ends up on the field needs to be determined and be fanatical competitor's The Colonials need to battle with a relentless will to win.
Over the past 3 or 4 seasons fans have watched lackluster performances by this football team I do not think that will be tolerated any longer

Anyone have predictions about which of the new players will make the biggest contributions next season? Here is what I think. Obviously, the three mid-year transfers should be the most prepared plus they each bring excellent size and talent to their positions. Terence Stephens and Steve Petrick likely will get a lot of playing time with both being possible starters. Caleb Lewis could well win the starting QB position, and if not will be a very impressive backup. Arrington Johns is coming in with some JUCO experience and with great size and bulging muscles for a DB. In his video, he looks to have talent and is a hitter. I have to believe he will be competing for a starting spot immediately. Looking at the list of true freshmen it is hard to determine which might compete in their first year, although most of them can be good special team players. To pick out one, I will go with Darrell Mason from Penn Hills. Darrell played for Jon Ledonne this past year who was in his first year coaching Penn Hills. Ledonne is one of the greatest STUDENT/athletes in RMU history. He was a hard-nosed linebacker. After graduation, he went on to earn a Ph.D. in engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Penn Hills has a great tradition in football. Hopefully, Darrell Mason will be the first of many RMU recruits from Penn Hills. After playing for Ledonne, I believe Darrell will be prepared for his freshman year. Go Colonials!

Eddie Kachmarek transferring to Erie Community College.

Gee Stanley was a double edge sword. He weighed 190lbs. at OLB and had a knack for rushing the QB. For all the yards he got us sacking the QB he gave up twice as much in bad coverage and not covering the proper gap.

Stanford is very much around. The defense will be solid because of what Farison built.

Speaking of which, him getting hired by Duquesne hurts and hurts bad.

I missed this Farison hire. Where’s that posted at? That does hurt!!!

The players must be disciplined in the classroom and the field. Way to many penalties over the last two years . Constant arguing with officials by the coaches was a bad example for the players. Players must buy in no matter what year they are in the Colonials should dominate the NEC and they will once discipline is instilled in all facets of their educational and athletic experience. No positions will be safe they will have to be earned through hard work and a strong will to win

The defense gave up 30 points a game last season Thats not playing good defense something has to change most coaches would be very miserable and irritated if their team gave up 30 a game personal and scheme must change players need to be bigger stronger and faster to be able to withstand playing a division 1 football game you got to be an animal to play this game
if not you will get brutalized

I don't follow football like most of you, but how much were the points allowed inflated by an offense that could not stay on the field?

True, but look at the first half scoring of opposing teams. You will come to a different conclusion. The defense was warn down by the second half due to
the defense playing extended minutes in the first half, due to the inability of the offense to move the ball, interceptions, turnovers, penalties etc.

I can think back to the North Dakota state game where in the first quarter alone the offense gave up the ball inside their own 5 yard line, threw a pick 6, and had another turnover inside their own 20. That's 21 pts that are not the defenses fault. Sacred heart 21-14 loss on a pick six. Youngstown state where the offense turned it over multiple times inside their own 25-30 and the defense held ysu to a field goal or missed field goal. You can make that argument all day about the defense needing to make a stop, that's the easy thing to say. But if you watched every game last year, it was not the defense to blame, much like the past 3 seasons. It's the total lack of offense that is the reason the defense has bloated numbers

scholarship players worn out by the 2nd half thats not right they need to be in better condition and much much stronger also should have other players ready to go maybe some of these starters cant play an entire game

Rapper your killing me because according to you all we need is a bunch of Neanderthals stronger and faster and we will be in Frisco this year.

I love your passion and I agree a good weight room and conditioning program helps, but players do get tired.

Your lack of understanding as to why they gave up 30 a game last year explains your football IQ.

If anyone truly believes the D is to blame for the last 4 years, they have no clue. 0, zero, nada, null.

no unit should be blamed its a team you win and lose together im not blaming anyone but when you have an over all record like the colonials have over the past 4 years a staff really has to take a close look at the roster and depth chart it needs a complete overhaul with position competitions all over the place no one should be handed a spot

watching players get physically moved off the ball and man handled does not take much football IQ
The players being moved off the ball and backwards were on offense, not on defense. The defense was highly ranked in FCS rankings for the last four years. The problems were on offense with injuries, offensive linemen leaving and totally inept offensive coordinators. We can live in a fantasy world and say the poor record was a team situation but that is not reality. The special teams were really good, the defense was really good and that only leaves the offense as the weak link. Having to start 18 year old freshman players just out of high school, against 22 year old plus juniors, seniors and fifth year seniors on the offensive line can never be successful, and wasn't the last two years. This is not a reflection on the players but on the staff for not recruiting and retaining offensive linemen. Hopefully the freshman classes of the last two years will all stay and develop. When quarterbacks are sacked eight plus times a game, it doesn't matter how good your skilled athletes are, they are not going to get a chance to make plays.

Since the last championship in 2010 RMU has been at the bottom third of the FCS, in terms of recruiting Bigger, Faster and Stronger those kids usually land in the top half. Hell some Bigger, Faster, Stronger will bypass a bottom 1/3 FCS team to go to a winning DII program. Now it comes down to development physically of the athlete and coaching. That’s why Coach Clark’s comment on building a program is so important. Keeping these athletes and maturing them, which remember are the best of the 2% out of high school and that play at this level, but yet not the elite of the group is so important. There’s talent at RMU but it’s raw and hidden and successful coaching grows that and finds it.

Tyson Bagent, QB who was offered by RMU, decided he would have a better chance to further his career by going to a Division II school, and is going to attend Shepherd University in West Virginia.
