Football Candidates

(Nothing official yet) but I’m hearing Clark and we should hear an announcement in a few days.

Any thought on what the holdup on announcement is? Are many of the players still around campus?

There does not seem to be any mention, that I can find, on the internet of this hiring. There really has been no speculation throughout this process on any other sites than this one. Other than Ryan Recker, who is an RMU grad, the media has been totally disinterested in this search. Assuming the decsion was made Friday, it seems odd that nothing is being reported, officially or unofficially, anywhere. Once again, if the decision was made Friday, I would have expected word of a press conference being set up for today or tomorrow. or at the latest on Wednesday. If it is taking this long to work out a contract, maybe RMU should move on to plan B.

I heard that Farison resigned and all the defensive coaches are gone but the website doesn’t reflect that, so not sure if this info is accurate.

If that’s true then I’m definitely saying B Clark is on his way. Would make sense for Farison if he was told he wasn’t a candidate and knows who the leading one is. Some of the assistants I thought would have stuck around or been ask to stay for continuity. However a clean break may also have been the intent.

It’s all speculation because this has been the most hush-hush event since the FBI files of the Kennedy Assasination!!!

I think the coaching search coverage is a perfect case of just how far RMU football has to go to be relevant beyond the campus and alumni. I remember the hiring processes that led to Mark Schmidt and Mike Rice both getting a fair amount of local coverage. But RMU football has been bad in a tough market, which makes it a tough sell for news outlets to put much focus into it.

I know RMU basketball gets covered fairly frequently by the PG, but I don't know if the Trib has covered a game this season. And I can't think of the last time either outlet covered a football game.

As far it taking forever to come out, I wonder if Clark wants to try to have a staff member or two set that can be announced at the same time. If sallycham is right and the remaining assistants are all gone, that could be an indicator that Clark already knows who some of his assistants are going to be and the university wants to announce it all at once. Could also be some clearance stuff that needs signed. I don't know if there's any PA specific clearance forms that need filled out and processed for football coaches like other educators.

If Farison is gone, I am disappointed, but not surprised. I was hopeful that the new coach would give serious consideration to keeping Coleman and DiMichele.

For what it is worth, the open position of football head coach is no longer posted on RMU's official website.

Not my guy but I will say this...

Not too many people remember but Bill Belichick was not New England's 1st choice. They wanted Bill Parcell's (again) and not his DC. It was a head scratcher to most.

Ironically the same can be said of the man Belichcik replaced. Pete Carroll was considered a washed up loser when he arrived at USC.

Point is, you never know? I hope Coach Clark can assemble a great staff and get these boys moving in the right direction.

I think if you look at the hire just on his credentials, it's pretty strong. Albany's defense has been strong. He's been around different campuses and different programs, which can help create a big network of potential assistant coaches. He's not only recruited the general region, but he's specifically recruited here in PA. And he's got Florida ties, and we all know how important that Florida pipeline is, even to a school the size of RMU.

Albany's defense has been ranked in the top 20 in scoring defense each of the past two years under Clark. That's better than RMU in a much tougher league, and we all thought RMU's defense has been solid the last few years.

Yeah, they were 4-7, but that looks like more of an issue with the offense and Clark didn't have much control over that. He needs to hire a good offensive staff and some good recruiters, but he seems like a well-connected guy.

It's not much, but I also found this Albany forum. I think we get more action here, but there are few comments since the news broke. The couple people who have posted aren't happy he's leaving.

I like it, as much as I love the founder of RMU football making a clean break from the Walton era and turning the page to a new chapter is exactly what this program needs its been to long without success. Some assistance should stay for continuity and recruiting but this will breed life into the program for a turnaround in leadership. The translation into wins is yet to be determined. Let’s Go Bobby Mo!!

Still, no press conference scheduled, still no official announcement???? Have the players been notified by the University, or contacted by the new coach? I realize the players are home on break, but they still need to hear of the hiring from the University and not just from Footballscoop.com or the news media.
If the contract negotiations are taking this long, maybe he is not the right guy for the job.

To be clear this is just a thought, not based on anything I heard or know. Just trying to put a positive spin on this taking so long. Anyways, maybe Clark is looking for upgraded facilities and admin and president are trying to find the money to make it happen. Wishful thinking perhaps, but maybe a possible explanation.

I agree, but the players have not been notified to date. They were only told before they left that they would have a new coach by the time they return. The longer the coaches wait to notify the players, the more likely more of them will leave.

The PR department at Bobby Mo is way behind on this hire...Not going to get much coverage if you do/say nothing

Summer workouts need to be mandatory. Some of the players need to improve their bodies in order to compete at the division 1 level

Practice energy and game day energy needs to be ramped up. Going to RMU games and practices is like a attending a funeral. Passion needs to be generated immediately by the new staff

Press conference is Wednesday morning.

enthusiasm and passion have to be at an all time high beginning the day athletes get back on campus after the holiday. The 2018 season begins now. Strength training has to be the number 1 priority RIGHT NOW. This team needs to get physically stronger NOW Strength training has to become the number 1 goal for these athletes. Teams we face are thicker and stronger than the Colonials. Who ever stays has to be willing to pay the price to win the NEC that includes players and coaches

Looking for (hoping for) two things tomorrow - 1) Coach Clark to present himself in a way that will bring confidence and enthusiasm to the current players, prospective players, students and fans, 2) he names at least a couple of assistants that will be of the quality to indicate that he is going to have a strong staff.

After watching the Colonials play over the past 4 seasons I also feel that players need to be plugged in to the correct position that can be utilized to help the team win. Technique and fundamentals are a very important aspect of success on the field but once again I feel that the Colonials need an energy packed off season with a tremendous lifting program in place. They are much weaker physically than any team they play. Kids must buy in or get out

If skilled players are lifting much more weight than the ol and dl then its difficult for success to happen. Lifting program and facilities MUST IMPROVE
each lifting and conditioning session has to be a game like atmosphere. Coach Clark will bring that energy

The strength and conditioning must be improved. I hope/think that coach clark will improve that drastically.

My thought is that he will lead with care and discipline which is what great coaches do in my opinion. I think he will be too much of a disciplinarian for some, but any guys that think that are likely not worth having around.

I am really starting to come around to Clark and am anxious to see his staff, particularly on offense as that could really determine the successfulness of the team. I do however think just adding discipline will improve team drastically.

I agree I really believe Coach Clark will change the culture of this team. Heart and passion lead to victories. Whoever emerges as the leaders of this team must display all out passion and guts player must respect the leader and follow them when a game is on the line someone must take charge but the others must respect him enough to follow. leaders must have the courage to lead. Some of these players are just going through the motions. Also a good staff can evaluate players and know where to plug them in to benefit the team if that means position changes for some then so be it If the players dont like it they can leave

The offensive style and def scheme are important however if players are weak in heart and mind it wont matter the type of schemes they use. If you are physically getting beat at the point of attack your play calling doesnt matter. So like I have said before I really feel the strength program is vital Most high schools have better lifting facilites than RMU These player must invest the more they invest the harder it will be to give up some of these players are literally getting tossed around in games like pieces of paper. giving up 8 or 9 sacks a game is unacceptable and lbs making plays 10 and 12 yards down the field is crazy the colonials have to make plays at the line of scrimmage on defense players are exhausted during games
