Coach Clark - Official announcement

Sorry to see those guys leave, although that's all part of bringing in a new head coach. Probably leaves recruiting a bit more challenging. Coach Clark and his limited staff are going to have to really scramble to pull together a reasonably decent class. When James Franklin was hired by Penn State, he was working so much he chose to sleep in his office for the first few months while his family stayed in Nashville. The guy was making $4 million dollars and he chose to sleep in his office!

That is a big worry for me, the class. From all accounts, Coleman was a hell of a recruiter. Losing him hurts in a lot of ways.

Jobs officially posted. Plungas' Twitter bio says he's handling linebackers along with being the defensive coordinator, so I guess that's why a linebackers coach hasn't been advertised.

DB coach - http://careers.rmu.edu/cw/en-us/job/493183/assistant-coach-football-defensive-backs

DL coach - http://careers.rmu.edu/cw/en-us/job/493184/assistant-coach-football-defensive-line

And looks like a part-time DB coach too - http://careers.rmu.edu/cw/en-us/job/493187/assistant-coach-football-defensive-backs-parttime

Does it appear that coaches McVay and Stephens-Howling and DFO Matviko will be staying on the RMU staff?

Yeah, seems like the staff looks like this for now:

Head coach - Bernard Clark
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks - Gabe Luvara
Running backs - Larod Stephens-Howling
Wide Receivers - Nick McVay
Offensive line - Rod Holder
Tight ends - TBA
Defensive coordinator/linebackers - Dave Plungas
Linebackers - TBA
Defensive backs - TBA
Special teams coordinator - TBA

All too quiet. There must be a lot happening behind the scenes. Coach Plungas did tweet a couple of days ago, "Great speaking with the RMU Defensive players today. Cannot wait to get started - The future is bright!"

I would not be surprised if Coach Clark has chosen the other position coaches. The openings are still listed on RMU's Jobs board, but that may be more to comply with RMU policy to post openings for a certain period of time.

Does not seem to be much on twitter regarding RMU offering players or players' committing. I suppose that will be picking up soon. The three transfers got things off to a great start.

Anyone hearing anything?

Who is the strength coach? What facility is being utilized for strength training?Surely the new coach is implementing a new strength and conditioning program. They must have an improved strength program. They are physically much weaker than their opponents. x's and o's wont matter if the players are physically weaker and smaller than the teams they are playing. The greatest asset to any head football coach is his strength coach.

The football team doesn't have a separate strength coach. Each team at RMU runs a strength program that's supervised by Todd Hamer, who has been there for a long time.

I believe the coaches tell Hamer what they'd like to work on and improve and Hamer designs a program that fits that. So I'd expect Clark to do that.

I don't think many schools the size of RMU have a dedicated strength coach for the football team. It's an expense they can't afford.

hopefully they begin lifting soon because the colonials are small and weak in many position groups. Some of the players look like bean poles and are getting thrown around in games like rag dolls. By mid season the players looked whipped. When you go to college to play football especially div 1 football your body should not get smaller and weaker. At times its difficult to tell the difference between ol/dl and skilled players. That should not be at the div 1 level.

Hammer is certainly well respected in his profession, but, no doubt, he is spread thin across all of the sports. The last few years the OL has just been so young. RMU has had 18 and 19-year-olds competing against 21 and 22-year-olds. The O-linemen that had stuck around, in previous years, were strong enough to compete by their jr and sr years. RMU just has not had O-linemen stay in the program in recent years.

Its not just the ol its all the positions the colonials look small and weak at all spots my god for 3 years now i have watched dbs lbs def ends get run over into submission by the 3rd quarter. I cant even believe some of these players are on scholarship. I went to div 2 game and saw bigger faster and stronger athletes competing. I think SRU and IUP and CAL St would blow the colonials out they are much stronger and faster which once again goes back to the strength program

I had heard before the coaching change that football would have their own strength coach separate from other sports. Not sure if they stuck to that change. I guess we will find out soon as the players are back and should be working out this week.

What about Ron Holder? He is still listed on Millersville's website and not on RMU's.

Anyone have any updates on the staff? I know the annual coaches convention was running through today and a lot of news typically comes out of that, but nothing on RMU.

Looks like Robert Morris is getting an alum back as an assistant.

Hartford Courant says Kyle Cooper is coming back to RMU. It's at the bottom of this article about other UConn staff changes.

http://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-football/hc-sp-uconn-football-dunn-20180112-story.html

"The only other staff changes are expected to be the departure of Jonathan Brewer (offensive quality control), who is expected to join Lashlee at SMU, and graduate assistant Kyle Cooper, who will become tight ends coach at Robert Morris, his alma mater."

Cooper spent the past two years as an offensive graduate assistant at UConn. He also spent time with Scott Benzel at Westminster. He was a heck of a linebacker and leader here. Great to see him come back.

From what I recall Kyle was a good player, a good student and a good person, everything you hope for in a student/athlete. I would expect West Virginia will be included in his recruiting territory.

So, updating this a little bit -

Head coach - Bernard Clark
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks - Gabe Luvara
Running backs - Larod Stephens-Howling
Wide Receivers - Nick McVay
Offensive line - Rod Holder
Tight ends - Kyle Cooper
Defensive coordinator/linebackers - Dave Plungas
Defensive line - Delbert Tyler
Defensive backs - TBA
Extra DB or LB coach -
Special teams coordinator - TBA

We're getting close. I added the "extra" position coach on defense because the university advertised for a part-time defensive backs coach as well as a full-time one.

I'm assuming one of the hired coaches will also be the special teams coordinator, but I don't know who that is. I don't know why some of the names haven't been released yet - maybe they're waiting to do a release all at once. Hopefully that happens soon.

Does anyone know if the strength program has started/off season conditioning Any one stepping up in the weightroom as leaders It all starts now. Hopefully various players are stepping up and leading the off season program.

Just curious, who is that Colonial? Matt Fennell?

This weeks VOW is enthusiasm and our male representative is Kirby Ames of @RMUFootball and for the ladies we have Rachel Gres

I do not remember hearing about Kirby Ames. He is listed as a freshman on the 2017 roster, however, on recruiting sites he is listed as a 2016 prospect. Here is what he wrote on the NCSA recruiting site when he was in high school. Sounds like a great young man who is getting after it in the weight room. Go Kirby, we are rooting for you!

PERSONAL STATEMENT
From playing only two years of highschool football, I've gained much knowledge about the game and have continually gotten better, day in and day out. That's the greatest quality of myself, whether it's in the classroom of on the field, I will never decline in production. I plan to achieve the most possible at wherever I attend college. The game of football is my deepest passion, and I plan to continue it throughout the collegiate ranks. I expect the most out of myself, those same high expectations I have for myself, will be the same high expectations I have for my teammates. My ultimate goal is to win and be successful, and wherever I attend I will strive to win and be successful, on the field playing corner or receiver and in the class pursuing my degree in journalism and athletic training.

You need to check all the boxes to be on this team now. Just being a great athlete isn’t going to work anymore. You have to want to be on this team, be where you need to be on time, not get caught up in off the field stuff that was tolerated before, be a STUDENT-athlete, respect your teammates and coaches. The winds of change are blowing. I’m excited about the future of this program and the group of committed players that will represent RMU Football!!

Robert Morris (FCS – PA): Syracuse graduate assistant Bart Tanski will be the secondary coach at Robert Morris, sources tell FootballScoop.

Very interesting. Bart was Ohio Mr. Football in the mid 2000's as a QB at Mentor (same as Mitch Trubisky). I believe he was converted to a WR at BGSU under Dave Clawson. Good get.
