Wow! I mean besides getting Kentucky back (very unrealistic lol), getting Pitt is the next best thing & I think can really help with attendance getting better for RMU’s team. Also, this game should be a lock for a sellout as Pitt’s arena holds 12K I think & UMPC Events will hold 4K.

Okay, not sure how I feel about that. Opening up with a game that in all probability will be a loss, and potentially a game that may not even be competitive. Yes, it should sell out, but will there be more Pitt fans than RMU fans? Pitt is doing RMU a favor by playing the game at RMU, but once the game starts they are going to want to prove they are the big team in town. Yes, it will be exciting to open against Pitt and to have a big crowd. Hopefully, the Colonials will be able to keep it competitive enough to give the RMU fans something to cheer about during the game.

Pitt should be better next year but let’s not act like they aren’t beatable (finished 14th in the ACC this year).

RMU better get in 2-3 games (counting exhibition) before this one tho to get warmed up.

I heard this rumor a week or two ago. This a good thing. I hope RMU offers game tickets to the RMU family first, beyond just season tickets that may now require a seat license to purchase. It would be awful if the first game in our new home has mostly fans for the opposition. Maybe we can get a home and home series, or at least a return game at Pitt.

No way does it become a "home and home series." This is a one time favor Pitt is doing for RMU. A return game at Pitt, definitely a possibility.

I would see this being a 3– type deal with RMU getting this home game by returning back to Pitt for 3 straight years.

Yeah that's a good call given the programs are at such different levels. Glad to be playing them again. Wish we played them last season!

FWIW, sounds like this is a one off game. Not that there wont be future games at Pitt, but that doesnt sound like its apart of this game/deal.

However it shakes out, pretty great of Pitt to agree to it. Not much for them to gain at all. Hopefully Duquesne will be back on schedule soon as long as they think they are good enough to put us back on schedule.

Everything I've heard also suggests this is a one-off deal. Pitt recognizes it doesn't get the same juice out of hosting RMU as it does playing Duquesne, so there isn't a terrible incentive to bring RMU down to the Pete on a regular basis.

And I've heard RMU can get a bigger guarantee check from the likes of Purdue and Louisville than it can get from Pitt, which makes sense from an administrative standpoint. If you're going to play an ACC school, why not get a bigger payday?

So this is a one-year arrangement that just makes sense for both. RMU gets local buzz for its new arena and has an outside shot of pulling the upset since it'll be a veteran team against a rebuilding power five school. Pitt will still be a solid favorite and could pick up a decent road win that could help the resume down the road.

ColonialInsider, I think you summarized it perfectly.

If beating RMU is a resume builder for an ACC school, then that's a win win situation for us.

Well, it's not beating a Power 5 school on the road, that's for sure.

But when schools like Pitt schedule teams from one-bid leagues, the idea should be to grab potential conference title contenders. RMU should be that next year, barring something unexpected.

If that school can have a KenPom rating around 125-175, that's about as good as it gets for an ACC school.

In other words, you don't want to be North Carolina State. Of the 9 mid-majors NCST played this year, only one had a KenPom rating better than 200. Six were in the 300s, meaning they were among the 50 or so worst teams in college basketball.
