SFU 20, RMU 7

The offense went quiet for the first time in a while. SFU's experienced D was just too much. Gave up five sacks, which is the most RMU has given up in a while this season.

No Alijah Jackson. Anyone know why?

Maybe RMU has something at linebacker with Wollet, Brady Ours and Jonathan Wanat. Guys were everywhere. But no pressure on the QB again and not enough playmakers in the secondary.

New Football Commit for 2019

Colton Richards, a pretty athletic lineman and linebacker from Wilmington High School up near Sharon/Grove City has committed to Robert Morris.

247 Sports has a profile for him- https://247sports.com/player/colton-richards-46056421/

This might be a steal. As of August, he had offers from Richmond, Albany, Delaware, St. Francis, Fordham, UMass, Duquesne, and Navy.

He looks like a jumbo athlete. Wilmington has him as the pulling guard on a lot of plays on offense and then uses him at middle linebacker on defense. 247 lists him as a defensive tackle. Definitely seems to have some speed and athleticism.

How to improve the D

is there anything that can be done this week, or next week to improve the D?

From coaches show, comments, they are making it very simple. From us that have watched for awhile, think we all know AW, Fenwick, 37, lamica can play.

I with many of you really think highly of Stanford, and I do of D Smith as well. Not sure if they are hurt or what deal is there.

I have said, half jokingly about moving Barr to D, now I am not so joking. What about Chase? If he is healthy he hasn't gotten much time at WR. How about Dalton?, He is a big strong young man whom I believe was a really good high school wrestler, might be good on D line.

Just some maybe out of box thinking out loud.

Alijah Jackson

What does everyone think about this young man? He now has two 100 yard games resulting in two NEC Rookie of the Week awards. He's a small back, but clearly has talent and speed, and is getting the job done. Between Alijah and Terence Stephens, a bigger, stronger back, the Colonials seem to be in good shape at the RB position.

RMU Offers 2019 Bishop McDevitt (Pa) Quarterback

No one else has offered Chase Diehl, probably because he's a bit small at 6-0. Maybe it's fitting he got an offer the night Drew Brees became the NFL's all-time leading passer.

His stats are certainly impressive so far this year. 66% completion rate, 1892 yards, 22 TDs, 3 INTs. He completed 70% of his passes for 2927 yards, 29 TDs, 8 INTs last year.

Diehl plays for an elite high school program, too. Bishop McDevitt is a state championship contender most years.

Let’s talk about some good stuff!!

The Offenses 3rd Down Conversion Percentage is .455, that’s 18th in FCS

4th Down Conversions is #1 in FCS...2 for 2, still #1

Completion Percentage is #66, at 67% top 50 is only 2% Difference!!

Offensive 1st downs is 70th at 98, with top 50 being only 10 1st downs away

Here’s my 2 Favorite!!!

Red zone Offense is #9 in the Country in FCS!!! At .947%!!

Think about this from the last few years and realize what growth these guys have had and the impact Coach Holder has had...Sacks Allowed 1.20 per game making the OL and Jimmy a top 25 (23rd) team in sacks allowed. Top 10 is 1!!

These boys will put it together real soon as a team. I feel it coming sooner rather than later and it maybe the Battle on the Bluff that starts the turnaround!!!

Central Conn

So, it has been awfully quiet on this forum. What does everyone think about this upcoming game?
Seems to be a very important game if the Colonials hope to have a respectable season. Hopefully, after having a week off, injured players have had a chance to heal. Hopefully, at this point, the players are comfortable with Coach Clark's systems and culture. It would seem to be an opportune time for the team to pull it all together in front of a homecoming crowd and gain some momentum for the rest of the season, and for the Coach Clark era. Go Colonials!

Some personnel notes as we hit the bye week

I've mentioned a couple times how we could see some changes once the staff has a chance to reflect on the first four games and use this bye week as an opportunity to re-evaluate guys in their current roles.

So I went through to look at how some guys are performing. I'll get to them in a bit, because I also noticed some interesting participation trends.

- Barry Amos started at safety in the opener, but he hasn't played at all the past two games. Dejuan Dandridge has started every game in his place. If he's not hurt or disciplined, I wonder if he'll be given another shot.

- Similarly, Matt Fennell started the first two games on the offensive line but didn't play at all against Bryant. Rene Rodriguez started at right tackle against the Bulldogs and while the line performed well for most of the game, Rodriguez got beat badly on the sack that led to Jimmy Walker fumbling on the final drive.

- Dylan Young started the first three games at right guard and didn't play at all against Bryant. John Sheldon got his first start of the season there. Injury or performance decision? Have to say Sheldon played fairly well.

- Running back Kendall Rodgers hasn't played a game since the opener. Alijah Jackson has replaced him as the No. 2 back and maybe even bumped Terence Stephens out as the No. 1 back.

Good stuff to build on through four weeks:
- Regardless of who is No. 1 and who is No. 2, Jackson and Stephens have shown flashes at running back. Jackson was awesome against Bryant and Stephens had a long kick return. Definitely can keep working with them moving forward. The run game needs to be more consistent and more productive, but there's a foundation there.

- Matt Gonzalez is the teams leading receiver through four games and Tim Vecchio is second. That's a pretty solid foundation.

- Eric McCallister, Trevor Hicks and Connor Mundy have started every game on the line. Seems like they've settled in as starters and I don't see a reason to change.

- Jimmy Walker has been very solid. He's completed 53.4% of his passes and has over 200 yards in every game except the JMU blowout. I see no reason to move away from him as the starter. Just keep getting George Martin experience as his back-up when possible.

- Adam Wollet has been as expected at linebacker and Jon Muehlbauer has been a nice late surprise at safety.

Areas of improvement:
- Consistency at receiver beyond Gonzalez and Vecchio. Delano Madison has been underwhelming. Warren Robinson has been hurt. I'd like to see three guys who popped up against Bryant become regular targets - Steve Petrick as the No. 2 tight end, Anthony Dellefemine and Brandon Magee as receivers with Vecchio and Robinson. Also, what's up with Tavin Allison? He's been very quiet through four games after showing flashes last year.

- The team has three sacks in four games. Unacceptable. Where's Chris Stanford? He's played in just two games. Is he hurt? If he's healthy, he needs to play. Fenwick is the only guy playing reasonably well on the defensive line.

- Linebackers haven't given them much help, either. Lamica and Neal aren't getting in the backfield for tackles for losses. The team has 10 fewer tackles for a loss than their opponents through four games. The team is really thin at linebacker, but the front seven is not getting it done.

- The corners have been okay, even with Heavon Price banged up. I like EJ Jimenez, though he's made some freshman mistakes. I'm less sure about Dejuan Dandridge about safety. Maybe Myles Canton and Jon Muehlbauer should play together instead of battling for the starting job at one spot.

- The defense has done a decent job with deflections and break-ups, in line with the opposition. But they need to find a way to create more turnovers. Just three interceptions and one forced fumble. Getting to the QB more or blowing up running plays would help that.

@ Bryant 9/22 1:00pm

Wondering what the thoughts are heading into this game. Bryant's coach is entering his second season and they are scoring a lot of points.

On a positive note, they have been giving up a lot of points as well.

They are 2-1:
9/1 New Haven (D2) W 41-31
9/8 @ Stony Brook L 21-50
9/15 Marist W 37-27

I did the Massey rankings and predictions for BBall, so figured I would toss it in for this game at least just for fun.

Massey rankings (123 total)
Robert Morrihance
Score: 38-24

We think it will be VERY interesting to see the D depth chart, if it is correct, and how many freshman and young guys get lots of reps. Also, the QB depth chart could be interesting.

My thoughts on score, tough to say. 4th game so hopefully some kinks have been worked out on D. Really need to try to limit big plays, get turnovers, and some pressure (just like every game). On O, hopefully a run game can be developed and it has fun to see Gonzo and TEs mixed in and some well designed plays for them.

I think (hope)colonials can keep it close keep developing. My stab in dark, 30 -27 colonials.

Some off the wall stat predections:
-Alijah Jackson gets 100 total yards.
- Thomas Neal gets a pick
- Steve Perrick gets 60+ yards receiving

Go Bobby Mo

JMU pre game thoughts?

I think we all know that JMU is powerful team, and similar to NDSU last year.

Was wondering if you guys had any thoughts of what would constitute a successful game today?

Winning would be amazing and a HUGE upset, but short of a win what are you guys looking for in particular?

On offense:
-I would love to see QB completions over 50%.
- just in general, if the O line can improve, maybe be able to break a run or 2.
- 14 or more points I think would be good goal.

On defense:
-Would love to see run D show some improvement though I think this is a great improvement.
-A couple of sacks would be great.
- keep them under 50 is probably a better than expected result.
