Much of Colonial Nation is still licking its wounds from Tuesday night's unexpected drubbing at the hands of rival Mount St. Mary's. The season has not concluded, though. Robert Morris will go to the NIT for the second straight year.

RMU will not get a shot to host a team like Kentucky, though. Any game RMU plays will be on the road. Illinois and Marquette look like potential NIT teams and will be unable to host, but it appears unlikely the seeds will match up in that regard.

Our friends at NYCBuckets.com do a fantastic job tracking NIT bids and potential seeding, so we'll let them do most of the heavy work. But ColonialsCorner did want to do an initial run through of what potential seed to expect, along with a couple potential opponents. So much still remains to be determined, including how the results of some of the larger conferences impact the NCAA Tournament bubble and the top seeds in the NIT, as well as which conference champions will be relegated to the NIT much like Robert Morris has been.

But for now, here's what to expect out of RMU's appearance in the NIT in 2014.

Out of the seven mid-major conference champions who have been booted to the NIT, Robert Morris compares favorably with five of them. Belmont and Green Bay are out of reach and will be seeded well above the customary 7-seed or 8-seed range that the mid-major conference winners land in.

Robert Morris will be either a 7 or an 8 seed. They were an 8 last year against UK. High Point is guaranteed to be an 8 seed because of a woeful profile. That leaves Vermont, Davidson, Florida Gulf Coast and Robert Morris tussling over jumping up to a 7 seed.

RPI
Vermont - 105
Robert Morris - 125
Davidson - 127
FGCU - 146

Non-conference SOS
Vermont - 23
Davidson - 20
RMU - 125
FGCU - 241

Record vs Top 100
Vermont - 0-5
Davidson - 1-6
RMU - 0-7
FGCU - 1-5

Despite the Top 100 win, FGCU has the weakest profile and will likely be and 8 seed. Vermont, RMU and Davidson become more interesting. Vermont had the better RPI, Davidson has the Top 100 win. Robert Morris has the better RPI against Davidson but a softer non-conference schedule.

Unless a few more one-bid conference champs drop in and have weaker profiles, it seems likely that Robert Morris will land an 8-seed again. That would mean a potential game against the likes of Georgetown, St. John's, Utah, Missouri, Florida State, Providence, Minnesota, Arkansas, et al.

It'll be something to watch moving forward.
