First Conference Game
Sacred Heart (1-10) @ RMU (2-11)
When: Jan 2, 2016 @ 4pm
Where: Charles L. Sewell Center
Game thoughts:
This is a game that RMU should win but still not an easy victory. Sacred Heart has a couple good players to look out for. One is Cane Broome. He is only a sophomore and was one of the best freshmen last year like Reed.
He's currently averaging 19.9 PPG, 3.0 assists, & 5.1 Rebounds per ball game. Another player to look out for is Quicy McKnight. He is only a freshman but is still pretty good. He is averaging 11.5 PPG, 2.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game. He's shooting about 41 % from the field (which is pretty good for a freshman) but is a bad 3 point shooter at only 11.1 % and a bad free throw shooter (at 56.3%).
Keys to win:
1. Let's make some threes!
Against Gerogia on Tuesday, RMU shot a pitiful 12.5 % from three (3-24). That is awful! In this game, they are at least in familiar confines (in the Chuck). Pryor, McConnell and Minnie need to hit some threes and at minimum (as a team) shoot over 28-30% from down town (not a ton to ask here).
2. Can Kavon Build off of Georgia?
For those of us that watched the game on SEC Network, we saw Kavon finishing at the rim and shooting a decent percentage from the field and the free throw line. In this game today, he needs to attack the rim and make layups with his quickness and ability to easily blow by defenders. I believe he had 14 points (possibly a career high) and shot 4-10 from the field and 5-6 at the Charity Stripe vs Georgia.
3. Play hard and don't do dumb fouls
RMU needs to give a good effort today and play good defense, and they will set themselves up well for a win. Also, they don't need to commit dumb fouls especially their best players. Minnie has a tendency to do this (several times at the beginnings of games). This might be a reason he comes off the bench some days so he doesn't commit a dumb foul right off of the tip.
