The NEC hosted their third annual "NEC Social Media Day" today, which is essentially NEC media day in Brooklyn NY at the Barclays Center. A link is posted at the bottom to watch on NEC Front Row (where you will be able to see every RMU home game this season and every NEC Regular Season game).

The men's basketball coaches poll, first place votes in parentheses:

1. SF Brooklyn (6)
2. CCSU (3)
3. RMU
4. SFPA (1)
5. Mount
6. Bryant
7. Wagner
8. LIU
9. FDU
10. SHU

NEC Preseason First Team:
Earl Brown (SFU), Jalen Cannon (SFC), Lucky Jones (RMU), Dyami Starks (BRY), Kyle Vinales (CCSU)

Lucky Jones and Andy Toole were in attendance representing the Colonials.

Some thoughts:

We will go into much more detail as we begin rolling out our NEC previews over the next few weeks, but a few quick thoughts.

#1 Every team has a bunch of unknowns, and it shows with the coaches poll. The three teams that return the most talent, CCSU, SFBK, and SFPA are all in the top four because opposing coaches know what they are getting with those three teams. RMU cracks the top four because of coach Toole's reputation in the league and RMU's recent history.

#2 In my opinion, CCSU is overrated, and Bryant is underrated. Bulldogs will finish top four, CCSU will not be a conference contender.

#3 Safe picks on the first team. All are seniors and proven players. Would be surprised to see anyone else named to the preseason game, but I can assure you someone will emerge within the league and break into this first team (looking at you Kavon Stewart).

#4 Only one team in the history of the NEC was picked preseason number one and went on to win the regular season and tournament title in the same year (LIU in 2011-2012). Four preseason NEC number one teams won the conference tournament. History says St. Francis Brooklyn will not be the NEC NCAA tournament representative.

#5 Brooklyn, and the Barclays Center once again hosted a wonderful event. The presentation by the league and venue was first class. Keep up the great work NEC.

#6 Andy Toole seemed quietly confident in his bunch when talking about this years group. He knows the team is young, talented, and very athletic. He mentioned this numerous times Tuesday, and I'm sure we will hear it throughout the season; attention to detail and consistency will decide just how far this team will go.

#7 Lucky Jones, who is primed for a monster senior season, talked extensively about the work that junior forward Aaron Tate put it. Tate will look to build on a solid sophomore year, and could form one of the best defensive "1-2 punch" in the league along with Jones. Aaron will also be asked to become more of a leader for the team, and that leadership will be huge in the development of a very young exciting frontcourt.
