Former Robert Morris assistant Matt Raich is headed back to the NFL.

Raich, who was on Joe Walton's staff as an assistant coach from 1996-98 and 2000-02, was the linebackers coach at Duquesne last season after spending a decade in the NFL as a scout and assistant coach. He began his NFL career in the Steelers' scouting department before moving onto the coaching staff with the Steelers. When Steelers assistant Ken Whisenhunt was hired as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Raich joined his staff.

Raich eventually became the linebackers coach at Arizona before Whisenhunt was fired after the 2012 season. Raich returned to his native Pittsburgh to work with Duquesne's linebackers at that point.

Now, Raich is headed back to the NFL as a part of Jim Caldwell's new staff in Detroit. Coachingsearch.com reports Raich will be a defensive quality control coach for the Lions. Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin was also on Whisenhunt's staff at Arizona.
