Another opportunity for improvement and another W.

Bryant in the NEC so far
CCSU: Win 45-25 HOME
St. Franny: L 3-38 AWAY
Wagner: W 27-17 Home
Duquesne: L 31-35 AWAY

They have been tough at home, but as St. Francis shows, they can be stopped on O, though that was the only game they failed to score at least 24. So, D is going to have to have another great game I think. They certainly do give up points, the lowest they have given up was the 17 to Wagner.

I think we know the recipe for an RMU win. Need a solid, time consuming, balanced Offense keeping the negative plays to a minimum. Need the D to play out GREAT, turnovers, sacks, etc. Special teams needs to be solid to great. No mistakes, no blocked kicks, win the field position battle.

Not sure of a prediction yet, but I really think the boys get this one. Might take some breaks, but it did look we had some open guys down field that Carroll just missed by a yard or so a couple times. Could have been the wind.

Is boyette the new starter on the line? Or was there a specific reason he was moved last week?

I do not know, had no clue about it. Thought he played well. Took me until a while to notice him in there watching online, but those home uniforms are really tough to read.

Just a red shirt soph, big body, and again, seemed like he played well. Again, kudos to coaches finding spots for kids to help the team, and Richardson for getting him ready for game time. Also, big thanks to him and other players who will leave their comfort zones to help. That is a sign of a cohesive, team first mentality.

The thought among many offensive players is that Miller's concentration is on underclass players and on next season. They feel that since the coaches' contracts are set for next year, and since it's only a one year contract, they can continue not to promote and honor senior leadership, but instead to get their ducks in a row for next year. The last few games, they feel, are opportunities for Miller to try new things in anticipation for next season. Theoretically, I was told by one player, seniors are of no use anymore to a set of coaches who have to win NEXT year (after these seniors have graduated) to preserve their jobs. If their insights are correct, I'm happy for the opportunities that presents for freshmen but sad for those players who have, in fact, committed three to four years giving all of their efforts and almost every second of their spare time, believing in, and playing for, a losing team.

Interesting. I wonder if that player that informed you is an upper class-men that has based by the youth of this team and that individual is upset by not getting more chances or could we see if shift of players removed from the lineup.
I still saw Lewis, Swiss Steve, Cooper, Branch all out there on D on Saturday. I saw Stanley being removed from the lineup and not Cooper.

I highly doubt the staff is going to sit seniors of the next two games in favor of the 2017. Not if the game is out of hand then you might see more younger players get game time to see what they have for next season.
For example, if Bodeman is healthy and Joe starts slow, you might see Chase get more reps in the game.

So again, I would be shocked if you see a completely new depth chart for Bryant. But there is no hope for a NEC title and as a coach, you do have to see what you have for next season at some point.

Just my thoughts, and not to be rude to any players. These coaches need(ed) wins. They were going to play whomever they thought could give them the best chance to do so.

Any coach with a 1 year contract, that had a junior that could help him in last year would play him if he thought he could help him, There simply are not many seniors, or RS seniors on team. I have been more critical than most on here about the current coaching situation. However, I think to say that coaches are looking 4 years down the road is not correct, they need to win next year. If they do not do so, they will not have worry about any year after 2017.

I do not say this to be mean or vindictive, but they are going to play who gives them the best chance to win. There is not a margin of error anymore. That is where it is, as evidenced by a ONE year extension.

EDIT: I will say though, if Chase is ready, and you can not RS him, play him. I know there is a philosophy that he can hurt his mental game by not playing well. My thought is, this kid is a BIG recruit. Play him, if he sinks, you have all spring and summer to build him back up.

I have to politely disagree. Yes, there are absolutely some offensive players who have paid their dues and worked and gave all their effort to this program. However, this is division 1 football, some of those upperclassmen on offense are part of the reason this offense hasn't been able to get out of its own way the past 3 seasons. I have seen a spark from some of the younger guys this year. I also feel that some of the upperclassmen are a part of the losing culture and by playing the young guys and getting that new blood, it will help build as well as turn the program around. The offense has made progress and improved this season in 9 games more than it did in 2 years under hicks. It's not all freshman by the way, QB is carroll RS junior, fullback is Ben line junior, tight end is Reggie green RS junior. Left guard is Mike lamb junior, reggie mike and Joe started and played the entire game, and Ben also played as well. So I don't see how miller can be accused of playing "his guys" Joe, Reggie, and Ben aren't "his guys" and neither is boyette or Mike lamb

Totally understand. I appreciate the insight and input. Are you referring to somebody knew? Or lamica who has played D for a few weeks now?

I would be hesitant to believe that the coaching staff would be willing to write this season off with two games remaining and a chance to get to .500 in conference play. However College Football is a business and sometimes there are tough choices to be made in terms of letting the younger guys play and get reps towards the end of a long year.

But knowing some of the staff, Its hard for me to believe that they would be willing to write off 4 years of hard work that a senior has put in for no reason. If the younger player is having better reps in practice / has had a better work ethic then we have to trust the staff.

Have to agree with ORMC and say I didn't notice an over abundance of new younger players in place of older ones. As has been pointed out here Boyette ( RS Soph ) was in the lineup for Chambliss (RS JR) was the only noticeable difference I saw.

Lamica, in my opinion is prime example of the the right coaching decision. The young man is a heck on athlete, he was not getting a lot of PT on O, so move him to D. He has a great role on 3rd downs (that is where I have noticed him the most) and seems to excelled in that role. TEAM FIRST.

Boyette, again, seemed to play really well on the Oline. Again, I do not think he was getting a lot of time on D. ORMC might be able to analyze how he played better than I can. The key though, Boyette clearly was amicable to switching sides, again, TEAM FIRST.

Having guys move around happens at all schools, you need to be able to get your best players on the field.

Also, it would be interesting to see what the 2-deep looks like on Thursday, but I am sure it will not be accurate again. Not sure I understand the need to hide anything there.

If there are changes, I believe they are to help team win now, and future. I have been critical of coaches, and sometimes get bi-polar about them, but I believe that another year of Miller will significantly help the O. He needs one of the QB's to execute his scheme.

I think as long as Barr, Chase, Brumbaugh, Maybe Carroll if he stays, and a newcomer can truly embrace the COMPETITION for the spot and not take anything for granted or feel entitled to be the starter whomever wins can lead the team far. As we have seen, the starter week 1 may very well not be the starter week 2. Injuries, etc happen.

I really mean this, I think if the above QBs stay and fight it out, and the young guys stay, they CAN, and I think will, win the NEC next year. D will be good, in Farison we trust. Maybe 2 optimistic, but but I have faith in these young men, and have faith in there character.

I totally agree with you. Saint Francis is losing a TON of seniors, and all conference players, at important positions. Duquesne is losing a few of their best players that are seniors, Bryant and sacred heart both lose their QB. The conference is ripe for the picking, if rmu can get the offense to produce a little, they will win the conference next season. They have been within one possession in their conference losses except Saint Francis, I don't see any reason why they won't be at the top

I tried to find one online, but no luck. Are the boys leaving on Thursday again?
