The RMU football fans have been making a strong showing on this forum all season. It's time to hear form the RMU basketball fans. RMU opens up at home on Friday against Andy Toole's alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania. Hope we get a great crowd for this game against the Penn Quakers from the Ivy League.

I follow the BBall team also, though not nearly as much as football. I know last year was tough, but I have faith in Toole to get things going the right direction again. I think it was an article posted on here where he said how last year was very humbling for him, and he looked inward to really evaluate why they had the issues they did.

I think they will be back in the race for the NEC, but it is kind of a strange deal. On the Chronicling the Colonials website, there was an article about how many of players transfer. I know RMU has a had a lot, some by choice, some probably not as much. BBall seems to be sport where teams can rebuild very quickly, and Toole seems to hit on JUCO guys a lot.

Here is my projection (guess) at the starting lineup, and the players to be first off the bench.

I expect a veteran starting lineup for the start of the season: Kavon Stewart, Matty McConnell, Isaiah Still, Billy Giles and Aaron Tate. The top four coming off the bench, in no particular order will be: JUCO transfers Lorenzen Wright and Roberto Montavani, and freshman Dachon Burke and Braden Burke.

Kavon is in his fourth year on the team and third as the starting point guard. He needs to be a leader, and hopefully will hit a higher percentage of shots, including foul shots.

Matty had a good freshman season, although his shooting percentage was disappointing, but that was probably due to playing much of the season with an injury.

Isaiah is a talented player that can play multiple positions. He had a good freshmen year, and hopefully will take a nice step up in his second year.

Billy had to adjust from JUCO last year, and had to carry too much of the load inside. He is a very good rebounder and inside scorer. As the old man on the team, I expect him to take a leadership role and to have a successful senior year.

Aaron is back after having injury problems last year. He looks better than ever. He is another player that should be a leader on the team.

Lorenzen is a player that can light it up from 3 point land. If he can hit shots on a consistent enough basis he will be an excellent addition to the team.

Roberto has a big body to battle inside. He will bring a lot of energy when he goes into a game.

Dachon may turn out to be the most talented player on the team. He also brings a lot of energy and the ability to score in multiple ways.

Braden brings something rarely seen in a Colonials' uniform, a very skilled legit big man. Although he will likely bulk up over the course of his career, he is not the typical super thin freshman. He is tough enough not to get pushed around. Obviously, as a true freshman, there is going to be an adjustment to D-1 competition, but he has a unique skill set for a 6'11" freshman, including the ability to knock down three pointers.

Conrad Stephens is now a scholarship player. He EARNED IT! He looks stronger and more confident. Coach Toole will not hesitate to bring him off the bench this season.

Jordan Lester and Clive Allen will battle to back up at point. Both are talented and probably have more potential to score from that position than Kavon.

David Cole is a big bodied 6'7" player with the potential to be an strong inside player.

Nate Johnson and Seth Rouse are walk-on players with ability to step in when needed, they are both in their second year with the team.

From what I gather the team chemistry is much better this year. Last year the team just did not come together.

Duquesne got upset by D-II Mansfield over the weekend. Mansfield was led by former RMU player Jeremiah Worthem who had 25 points and 12 rebounds. As most of you will recall, Jeremiah was a freshman at RMU a few years ago and looked as though he would have a great career with the Colonials. Mid season, Jeremiah, along with a few other players, broke "University rules" and was dismissed from the University. Jeremiah spent the following year at a JUCO, and last year at North Carolina Central. It is unfortunate that Jeremiah had to leave RMU, he made a mistake, got caught, and paid a price for it. I wish him all the best. It looks as though he has an opportunity to close out his college career on a high note.

In the 29 year-history of the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll, Robert Morris has never been selected as the preseason favorite. The Colonials own a league-high eight NEC Tournament titles. NEC Coaches have managed to correctly forest the eventual league champion just twice in the last 15 years.

In the past, the football fans would complain that this forum was dominated by basketball fans. The football fans have really stepped it up this season. Now, where have all the basketball fans gone? The season is about to begin. Let's hear from some basketball fans.

Here and ready to go...

Now that the election is over, I'm ready for hoops season to begin and Robert Morris to be MUCH better this year...

In Toole we trust!

Go RMU...!

Lots of good hoops coverage over a chroniclingthecolonials.com including a Colonials season preview today!

Looking forward to the game Friday. A real nice opener. RMU almost won at the buzzer last year. Mr. Still is going to ball out, and I think we'll look back at this freshmen class as the one that turned the ship around!

Check out those previews!

Go Colonials.
