2018-19 Basketball Schedule

Purdue was 30-7 and made it to the sweet 16 as a 2 seed. I'd rather play teams lower in the pack from big conferences.

The logistics of how these games are negotiated and set must be an interesting process. Wonder if it is coach or AD driven.

Yeah, but they all do scouting reports. They know what RMU has coming back. Those teams would rather take on Mount St. Mary's, which lost its coach and a good chunk of its roster, than take on a good team that returned a large portion of its talent and has a reputation for punching above its weight.

I agree...I like the challenge for our guys.

Now that Koby & Jon have played a year of D1 ball, they along with Matty & Josh will be ready. Petteway hopefully will be good to go as well.

That makes 3 buy/high major games
USC may not be a straight buy game. It may be part of the NABC Hall of Fame Classic, a preseason exempt tournament. USC, Texas Tech, Missouri State and Nebraska are playing in the championship rounds Nov. 19-20.

There should be four other smaller schools involved. The group above hosts two early round games apiece before playing the championship rounds. The smaller group then plays a couple games each other. For example, last year Yale played early games at Creighton and Wisconsin before playing South Carolina State and Alcorn State (one home, one road).

RMU and Stetson both play USC in the first week or so, which would line up as part of this. None of the other schools have announced schedules yet.

In that same report, it's noted that RMU hopes the UPMC Events Center will open in time for the start of NEC play. Not exactly a "grand opening" if they play say FDU, but I guess it's best to open it ASAP.

The Trib just reported that the men's team will be going to Ireland in August for a 9 day trip, including 3 games.

If I had to guess, the NEC schedule will start January 3rd and 5th.

So, for the open spots, probably a game between Nov. 9 and 17, maybe on the road near Missouri State? Or at home - PPG is available the 11th thru the 14th. Unless home games are just on campus.

The Siena and Rider games could end up being in the same timeframe as they were last year, just with locations swapped. So that's early December.

So maybe one more game before Christmas and another between Christmas and New Year's.

Whenever NEC play starts, I'm guessing RMU will open its new arena with a home game against St. Francis (Pa.) or Mount St. Mary's, it's two chief rivals. I'm sure RMU would have loved to do it with Duquesne before NEC play starts, but Duquesne doesn't want to play ball.
