Robert Morris has officially begun the search for the man who will run its new offense under new head coach John Banaszak.

Whatever shape and style the offense is, it'll more than likely be run by someone new to the program. The University has officially posted, as required by law, a job ad searching for a full-time offensive coordinator/quarterback coach.

There are options on staff, but it's more than likely that the Colonials will try to bring in a new perspective with an outside hire.

The listed qualifications, such as a bachelor's degree, at least three years of experience at the Division II level or higher, recruiting experience and knowledge of the football-centric video editing software DVSport, leaves the pool of candidates pretty broad. But that's not a surprise. This will be about feel and fit for Robert Morris. I expect a wide variety of applicants with an interesting mix of backgrounds.

As far as the job also including quarterback coach duties, that's also not a surprise. When you're installing a new offense, you're working exceptionally close with the quarterbacks. You need to not only make sure that they're up to speed on the playbook, but that they're adjusting physically to the rhythm of the new offense. That only works if you're working with them daily, going over things in position meetings, etc.

It also doesn't mean Jeff Sinclair is out. Sinclair wasn't able to be a graduate assistant because Myles Russ and Alex DiMichele had already filled those roles. But Russ' two-year term is up. It's possible he'll be hired as a full-time assistant or that he'll look for other opportunities as a coach. That would enable Sinclair to stay on as a graduate assistant and still work on technique with the quarterbacks while the coordinator oversees the bulk of the offense.

Regardless, a lot has to shake out. But the process is now at least officially in motion.
