Erie Cathedral Prep safety Marlon Tyree had been committed to Bowling Green since the summer. But when he made a visit to Robert Morris on Martin Luther King Day with a teammate, my ears perked up. What was a committed prospect, one attached to a MAC school, doing visiting RMU so close to Signing Day?

It turns out that Bowling Green has pulled Tyree's scholarship offer. Bowling Green had a lot of success this year, and that led to head coach Dave Clawson taking over at Wake Forest. The coach recruiting Tyree didn't follow Clawson, and the new staff at Bowling Green no longer sees Tyree as a fit.

That's where RMU comes in. The Colonials have offered Tyree, and they remain an option.

Tom Reisenweber of the Erie Times News caught up with Cathedral Prep coach Mike Mischler to get more details on the situation, which you can read here. Mischler's a great guy to talk to - he offered a lot of insight when I called two years ago about Kimani Smith - and he doesn't mince words about his current thoughts regarding the Bowling Green staff.

We'll see what happens, but the 6-foot-2, 185 pound 2-star safety would be a threat to start right away at RMU alongside Andy Smigiera. At the very least, much like Smith, he'd work his way into the conversation in certain situations and packages. You can watch highlights of his senior year here.
