I dont think its going to happen anytime soon tbh. RMU got sick of Pitt just tossing them into their schedule after conference play had begun. I also wonder if RMU is getting more money from other "buy" games.
Too bad we didn't play them last year.
Probably could have won if the good team showed up (Their A game).
Once the new arena is built, they should do a 3-1 deal or 2-1 deal with Pitt. For Example, 3 times at pitt, 1 time they come play @ RMU.
Would be cool!
I dont think RMU would look to do that with Pitt because of the amount of support Pitt would get. I do think they will look to schedule a big name opponent, but would probably look for one that wouldn't fill most of the arena with their own fans. Maybe down the line that would be something that would be plausible.
Ya once RMU has a bigger fan base.
Plus some RMU fans and Pitt fans like both teams. But they could offer a deal like that to Pitt down the road or a team like Temple, Cincy, Dayton etc...

I'm sure RMU may not have been the happiest about playing Pitt during the NEC season but its still an opportunity for the little guy to knock off big bro and to actually get talked about in Pittsburgh before the NEC and NCAA Tournaments (the only time when people in Pgh know RMU has a team). So, despite being unhappy, I cant imagine that's the sole reason why the game isn't being played anymore. Besides, its not like they couldnt work out another date. They have 2 full months to play.
My opinion is that Pitt either didnt want to pay RMU to come in or wanted them to take a small amount, a hometown discount, since they dont have to buy plane tickets or hotel rooms for the game.
It just doesnt make a lot of sense why the game is being played other than for financial reasons. My guess is that Pitt isn't thrilled about playing the game and instead of saying "no, we're not playing you," they simply lowballed them into declining.
- I read a post on a (Pitt) forum a couple months ago about this subject and it said basically - Coach Toole (& RMU) was the one that decided to quit playing Pitt. They did this because his players were too nervous to play the BIG team across town (and they've never played their best against them) and he decided to just play other big name teams from out of town.
-It also said that if RMU ended up winning the game, that Pittsburgh people (probably mainly pitt fans) would say "what's wrong with Pitt" instead of saying "wow RMU is gooood..."
If you look at Pitts non-conf scheudle (replying to the post above) this year and the RPI and caliber of teams that they are playing (@ home), they would be more than happy to play RMU. (Just saying lol).
As folks noted, Pitt has low balled us on the guaranteed payment for the game so we are playing other large conference teams for a bigger return. Simple economics as these buy games are what funds a good portion of the program's budget. Obviously, an extra $10k-$25k means a lot.
