RMU officially announced the hiring of Kyle Griffin as an assistant coach, and at the same time announced the hiring of another basketball assistant coach, Mike Iuzzolino. According to the Tribune Review, Tim Lawrence will move from assistant coach to Director of Basketball Operations.
Mike is a former St. Francis U. player and one of the all-time great Northeast Conference players. He also was a professional player, including in the NBA. He has been an assistant coach at various programs, most recently at Canisius. Mike is another coach that fits the Andy Toole mold. He has a very strong passion for the game, and knows how hard players need to work in practice and in the games to be successful. Mike should be a great addition to the staff as he brings a lot of experience, including having played at the highest level.
The Colonials appear to have one unused scholarship available for the 2016/17 season. It would seem unlikely that the basketball staff would not utilize the available scholarship, so possibly they will pick up a late qualifyer, or offer it to one of the walk-on players.
