"The NEC family is growing"

Wow, this was unexpected. I fully expected any changes to come after a school left (like RMU) or a move from another D1 conference.

Wonder if this is the only move or if another shoe is about to drop.

Perhaps this was a move prior to an announcement maybe to come down the road. I could see a program leaving the NEC soon.

Besides the obvious speculation that has surrounded RMU, I know Bryant has supposedly investigated upgrading its programs to maybe fit in the CAA. And back when Monmouth and Quinnipiac left for the MAAC, there was buzz about Wagner doing the same. Maybe Wagner is thinking about it again

I hope another football member leaves, as RMU is going to leave for hoops. MAAC, PL, or otherwise, I think it's going to happen.

If a football member leaves, and RMU goes MAAC, then that could be leverage to keep for NEC to allow football to stay.

Looks like LIU post is merging with NEC LIU Brooklyn. Seems like will add NEC football, lacrosse and some other sports.

2 new football programs recently removes a lot of leverage that RMU had regarding football if a conference change is made for the Colonials. Think only fairly viable options appear to be Ohio valley or Big south like Monmouth did.

Removes leverage, but it could also make the NEC less paranoid and more amenable to an agreement.

CI,
I would have agreed with you, other than the history, though extremely small, shows the NEC would not keep football only from former members (Monmouth), but Duquesne was fine to be football only. I think k Duquesne and St Francis would vote to keep, but both football additions are again moving away from the PA boys. Would like to see an Ohio D2 or a Seton hill/mercyhurst added.

Also, if we are to stay in NEC for the near future, it is good to see them be aggressive in getting a couple new football and Lacrosse teams.

I agree with this...no more DIIs on the schedule.

NEC Football 2019
1. Bryant
2. Central Connecticut
3. Duquesne
4. Long Island
5. Merrimack
6. Robert Morris
7. Sacred Heart
8. Saint Francis
9. Wagner

Absolutely. Let's face it, five non-conference games is really tough for a school like RMU to schedule.

With eight conference games, I'd love to see Robert Morris schedule Dayton, a lower level FCS school from the Patriot/Pioneer/MEAC, and a buy game (JMU, NDSU, Buffalo, Bowling Green, etc). You'd get a game that brings the school some money, a rivalry game that should be close every year, and a winnable game against equal competition.
