Some notes from the show:
- Clark got a call from James Madison's coach on Tuesday about moving the game up. RMU worked on logistics from its end, but James Madison helped them with hotel, meals, etc. in getting RMU taken care of.
- Clark felt his team was mentally prepared, just ran into a "buzzsaw" and that the speed was just so much greater.
- Felt his team played hard against JMU. Effort wasn't in question. Team missed way too many tackles, Clark said, and the staff can continue to do a better job of putting guys in the right position to make plays.
- Clark said that he wouldn't mind scheduling JMU four years from now to see where his program is at by that point.
- During the Virginia State game, Clark said Jacob Boronowski, the special teams coordinator, spotted how VSU was reacting to kicks and thought the onside kick would be available. They thought they could do the onside kick at that time and it worked well.
- Scouting also paid a huge dividend on the blocked field goal. Staff felt the kicks were low in all the film that they watched, so they felt they could get through with pressure to block it.
- Clark confirmed that Warren Robinson has been battling a hamstring injury.
- Not satisfied with running game, but likes Stephens and Jackson and feels they're working hard to get better.
- Jon Muehlbauer wanted to move to receiver, but decided late in camp that he really did fit better at safety. Coaches were happy that he wanted to go back to defense and it paid off in VSU game. He's won the starting job alongside Myles Canton.
- Said defensive line isn't getting to the quarterback as much as they want. Concerted effort to get better there.
- Heavon Price is out with an injury for now, so that's why EJ Jimenez has been starting at corner with Tevaul Brown. Clark wants more out of Brown and said his secondary needs to tackle better.
- Walker's been stable at QB, they feel comfortable with him, but they want to continue to push him to be better and be the guy to lead the offense, so Lewis or Martin remain options.
