Andy Toole & the RMU Men's Basketball Team got a commitment last night from JUCO Forward Malik Petteway.

He's listed at 6-7 or 6-8 depending on the source & is 215 lbs.

Here are some of his other offers:

None - Committed Elsewhere
Fairleigh Dickinson None - Committed Elsewhere
Wagner None - Committed Elsewhere
St. Peter's None - Committed Elsewhere
Fairfield None - Committed Elsewhere
Quinnipiac None - Committed Elsewhere
Iona None - Committed Elsewhere
Niagara None - Committed Elsewhere
Towson None - Committed Elsewhere

Offered by a few good mid majors besides RMU.

Here also is a video of him from 2015...he should be even better & maybe bigger now too.

Looks like he can play anywhere from the 3 spot to the 5 spot. Most likely at PF tho IMO.

He has nice range & athleticism & I like the add a lot!

Go RMU...

2017 Teaneck (NJ) G Leondre Washington has committed to Robert Morris, he tells me.

  • Exciting scoring combo guard. Probably overlooked by higher level programs due to size. Karon Abraham proved that an undersized guard from Jersey can score against anyone. Next year's team is going to have very talented athletes.

I was very disappointed when the transfers became known, but now I am really getting excited about this recruiting class.
And, I expect David Cole to be a significant contributor next season.

Yes I'm very pumped for these incoming players.

Toole got a lot of talent in this class!

Go RMU.

For Leondre Washington I found a nice highlight tape of his junior year of HS.

Very impressive player! He had offers from Towson (per Verbal Commits), Howard, FDU, Wagner, & Sanfrancisco.

Per rivals, he had interest from Oklahoma, Pitt, Temple, Rutgers, Virginia, & Miami (FL). Quite the interest!

Here's his rivals link...

Marcquise reed like but w/ some more PG skills.

Two great additions. Talked to someone with the team and they are REALLY excited about this group coming in. A nice mix of freshman and JUCO's, plus a top line transfer in Williams. Toole sure can recruit. That is for sure.

Joe Hugley, who looked to be a pretty good RMU recruit a couple of years ago, has signed with Central Connecticut. From what I recall, Hugley quit the team very early in his first season at RMU. I do not know what happened, obviously a number of college freshman each year, athletes and non-athletes, quit school in their first year for various reasons. He apparently had a good season this year playing at a JUCO. This type of situation seems to be becoming more common. A player gets recruited by D-1, it does not work out, or he is disappointed about playing time or whatever, he goes to a JUCO, has a good season, and gets re-recruited by D-1, this time the player has more of an understanding and appreciation for the realities of D-1 basketball.

Ya...

He started out tho with an injury & Toole wasn't happy (I heard) that he was taking so long to actually play a game.

Eventually it might have been worked out that he would be Redshirted & he announced that he was leaving at the end of winter/beginning of spring last year.

But ya he's probably looking at the playing time for going to CCSU as they have been pretty bad to say the least.

Coach Toole is looking to fill an opening on his staff. I would not mind seeing him hire John Rhodes who was on Jim Ferry's staff at Duquesne. He seems to be a great guy and a well experienced coach. I have no idea if Big John is a candidate, but since he is already living in Pittsburgh and is recently out of a coaching job, it is possible.

According to Verbal Commits, none of the four players transferring out of RMU have found new homes yet.
Hey, Isaiah Still, reconsider staying at RMU.

Braden Burke is transferring to be closer to home so he won't be back.

We should be fine without Lorenzen Wright. Other than his 3 shooting, he's a liability on the court.

If Still would come back we'd have a hell of a team that's for sure.

Ya maybe. IDK much on him but we could def do worse.

My guess at the starting lineup:

Clive
Matty
Dachon
Charles
Malik

Leondre and David first two players off the bench

I am aware of Koby. I know he is an NBA caliber dunker. I want to see if the other parts of his game are at least NEC caliber at this stage.

Don't forget about Koby Thomas. He'll be a force and I can see him earning big minutes early.

Ya I could see him end up starting or being a key 20+ minutes guy off the bench.

He could play some at PF if Toole goes small.

Could play a 4 guard/wing lineup plus Cole or Bain or Malik.

Like...

PG: Clive Allen
SG: Matty
SF: D. Burke
PF: Koby Thomas
C: Malik/Cole/Bain/Roberto

Braden Burke is transferring to Michigan State, as a walk-on.

I was a little stunned by this. I'll be shocked if he ever plays legit minutes there, but best of luck.

I guess he is trading playing time and a scholarship at low D-1 for the opportunity to be a member of a top tier, high profile D-1, even though he will be watching the games from the bench rather than being on the floor. The top tier programs often get walk-on players that could be scholarship players elsewhere. Jonny David from Mt. Lebanon chose to go that route, he just finished his
sophomore season at Kentucky as a walk-on. Not bad, he gets to practice against future NBA players and enjoy all of the perks of being part of a big-time program. With that said, I am a bit surprised also, I thought Braden might end up at Eastern, Western or Central Michigan. With his size and offensive skills he may have developed into a good MAC player. To my knowledge he is a good kid who wanted to be closer home. I wish him all the best.

NEC coaches, including Andy Toole, need to keep reminding themselves there is no point in recruiting players taller than 6'8". They just never, ever work out, either they just don't have the talent to play D-1 or they move on, but they never become quality players and stay in the Conference.
