Congrats to the RMU men's and women's hockey teams. The men's team beat #11 Ohio State, yes, THE Ohio State University, 6-2 on Friday, and then tied the Buckeyes on Saturday 4-4. The women's team tied Syracuse 2-2 on Friday, and then defeated the Orange on Saturday 2-1.

Always impressive to have success against some of the best known names in college sports.

I would like for RMU hockey fans to become active on this site.

I know less about hockey than I do football!! I do read the articles though. It is really an amazing story about how the Hockey team was built and really can hang/beat anyone in the country.

Lacrosse, I thought was on a similar path but have stumbled recently. Those two sports can really spread the RMU brand to a lot of different communities.

I just want to repeat - the RMU men's hockey team beat THE Ohio State University, and the women's hockey team beat Syracuse over the weekend.

Let's get some more comments, I don't care if you are a football, basketball or tiddlywinks fan. This is awesome news. Show a some love to the hockey teams!

I think its outstanding that we have two programs that can compete and beat those big name schools/programs. I'm amazed at what these athletes and how they don't care what the name is on the jersey for the other team, they just compete each game.

RMU has a rep in hockey of stepping up to the big teams and giving them a run for their money, and even beating a few. They've taken down a couple #1's in their history. They are a program that is not to be taken lightly, even in a rebuilding year.

Is this a rebuilding year for them Pierre? If so and they beat Ohio state, can't wait to see what they are building to!

How is their conference? Is it middle of the pack? Bit better or worse?

Would be great if he had someone who really knew about rmu hockey on here to help keep us in loop.

I'm not an expert on the team. I follow them casually. This is a rebuilding year for RMU hockey. The last few years were easily the best for the program. They won their conference tournament in 2013-14 and went to the NCAA tournament. They lost to Minnesota in the first round but played pretty well for a first time NCAA tournament participant. They've won their regular season title a couple times and made nice runs in the conference tournament. RMU's conference, Atlantic Hockey is a mid-tier conference compared to conferences of the big Northeast and Midwest schools, but their teams hold their own. RMU lost a number of their big time players to graduation. Most of them are playing minor league hockey for NHL farm teams. For a program of RMU's size and stature, they are pretty well respected. The Three Rivers Classic they host at PPG Paints in the winter, brings in teams that have played in the NCAA tournament. Boston College, Miami of Ohio, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State have played in that tournament. Except for Boston College, RMU has beaten all the teams I mentioned at least once over the years. They've earned some respect from bigger more prominent national programs.

I love seeing this kind of buzz around RMU. Seeing the students and athletes associated with the school happy about success and the future of athletics at RMU is great. Success in hockey has come a lot over last few years and continues to grow the sport at RMU and with talent in the area. A lot of youths from our area playing hockey attend the RMU games because it's a great product in a cool atmosphere close to the action.

I am sure it would have been on here, the school site, or the magazine, but have any RMU guys ever made the NHL? Anyone with a good chance of doing so this year or soon? Think that would be a big step for the program.

I am not very knowledgeable about hockey, but I would not be surprised to see RMU players make it to the NHL in the near future. I believe there are an number of former Colonials playing in hockey minor leagues, with a couple in the AHL, just a step (or skate) away from the NHL, RMU has been producing good teams, and good players, it will happen, RMU will be represented in the NHL.
