Why I like Mike. So far, no one has confirmed that I guessed correctly. Assuming I am correct; there is a lot to be excited about this hire. Obviously, he coached in the NFL, as an OC. Although there can be questions as to why he is no longer coaching in the NFL, he obviously is a knowledgeable and talented coach or he never would have been hired for positions in the NFL and subsequently promoted all the way to OC. He's a local guy, who apparently wants to, or at least will be happy, living in the Pittsburgh area. He has a history with the RMU program. He's a known commodity. It is not a case of taking a risk on a guy just because he has an impressive resume'. He recently was OC at Edinboro, a W. Pa. D-II program in a strong conference. As a result, he has already made the adjustments of coaching college again from the NFL. He also probably built some, or reestablished some, area recruiting contacts. He is still reasonably young for a coach with his experience. Having coached in the NFL he is used to working hard and long hours. One of the biggest benefits is that his NFL experience should be very attractive to recruits. On top of all that, I gather that he is a good guy, that will be well liked, and be personally interested in doing what's right for the student/athletes.
After all of that, I surely hope that I have figured out the right guy. If not, I am going to be very disappointed.
