6-7 Forward who looks like he'll have 4 years of eligibility.

He also had an offer from Albany & possibly Florida International too.

Nice. Losing Gombe, RMU needed another big, and it looks like he can play four and five in the NEC. Toole always searches out versatility.

New Mexico Military Institute is a junior college. Here's his stats - http://nmmiathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2017-18/bios/bior_atem_t6sa

This is RMU's last available scholarship as only Ronnie Gombe and Xavier Williams will graduate. I'm guessing any transfers would open up spots for potential freshmen. Even as close as this team appears to be, you've got to figure there will be one or two departures. It's college basketball, after all.

Without any movement, this is what you've got next year:
Seniors - Matty McConnell, Teavon Ashmeade, Malik Petteway
Juniors - Josh Williams, Dachon Burke, Greg Shead, Atem Bior
Sophomores - Jon Williams, Leondre Washington, Charles Bain, Chris Coalman, Koby Thomas, David Cole
Freshmen - None

I don't think you have to worry about McConnell and Burke. They seem to be determined to see things through here. And Petteway was starting until he got hurt. The Williams' seem like good fits and Koby Thomas, as already mentioned in another thread, doesn't seem like the type of guy to bolt.

And really, it doesn't seem like the other freshmen rock the boat a lot. Washington has gotten a lot of minutes except for when he was hurt. Bain and Coleman have had moments but have looked raw. And Cole has size but is in foul trouble a lot, kind of typical for a young big.

Ashmeade is the only one that seems to be in any sort of a doghouse. It'd be refreshing if there's not much of a shake-up.

He's listed as a sophomore this year. Also he's a SF so he may not be a 4 or 5 even in NEC. Averaging 12 & 8 this year with good overall game per stats. Saw he has 6'10 wingspan. Surprised two Jucos and no HS recruits but more spots usually open. Next year Matty will be a senior and maybe they think 6 freshmen this year is enough for awhile.

Unless Xavier Williams is red-shirting, we could use to add another big man.
2 isn't enough!

Right now we'd have just David Cole (who is struggling rn) & Petteway (who is a great player for RMU).

Williams has yet to play a game so a RS is a possibility.

Ya I agree that Ashmeade might be the most likely to leave although he would probably have to sit out a year to play a year unless he goes D3 i.e.

Just a guess but die to lack of playing time, mentions on radio etc I think a couple of the guys will be gone by next year.

One thing I really appreciate about Toole is seems to be able to guys in position to succeed. Gombe being worked in and EARNING playing time had been particularly fun to watch. One pettaway gets back (any clue on him?) They won't be great but pretty good down low against nec teams.

I'm not certain but I never heard of a graduate transfer redshirting.

Petteway was still in a walking boot at Bryant yesterday, so I'm guessing he's still a little ways away depending on the severity of the injury.

  • Does your community college time count towards your ncaa eligibilty?
  • Yes, if you have played sports at a community college and then transfer to a four year university the total time you have played will be taken off you NCAA

Sorry I didn't know what type of school he was at.

No problem. I wasn't sure how junior college effected eligibility, so I researched it. Happy New Year!

By the way I saw some video of Atem and he does have some back-to-the-basket moves. However he can also handle for a big man and I'd see him more comfortable as a 3, maybe 4.
