With its 7-4 win over Canisius Saturday night to capture the first conference championship in Robert Morris history, the Colonials hockey team already knew it was locked into its first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Now RMU knows who it will be playing.
No. 4 Robert Morris drew No. 1 overall seed Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game will be held at the XCel Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday at 5:30 and will be televised on ESPN2.
While it's a significant challenge for Robert Morris in its first NCAA Tournament appearance, it's far from a death sentence. The four top seeds rarely make it to the Frozen Four, with usually some mix of No. 2s and 3s making it in. Last year, two No. 4 seeds made it all the way to the Frozen Four here in Pittsburgh. One of them, Yale, won the championship.
