What are the chances RMU joins the MAAC or another conference within the next five years?

Probably at least 50/50 or better IMO.

But it would be cool if RMU could just convince it's recruits that they could just stay in the NEC and dominate, but moving up a league is much more likely than that.

Also, considering the MAAC only has 11 members for basketball, would the move possibly come sooner than expected. What would happen to football if RMU did move into the MAAC?

R-M-U-H-O-O-P-S-F-A-N, responding to your questions on a previous thread. The new guys all look impressive. It is a strong class, that is going to be part of a strong roster. Every member of the incoming class is a potential starter, and also a potential last guy off the bench. Toole's approach to starters and minutes is always the same - the guys who are putting forth the effort and getting it done in practice are the guys who will play on game day. It should be fun, the team will have a lot of talent, hopefully they will come together as a team and make it another exiting year to be a Colonials' fan.

I would agree with that after seeing the limited videos. I think Still and McConnell should get at least 15-20 min a game.

Steven Whitley looks good.
Joe Hugley also looks good
I think they are all talented.

Maybe Jordan Lester will be Redshirted unless he will play some PG
(Less than 10 min a game)

The team will be heavy on both ends (4 seniors and 5 freshman !)

A lot of experience and youth.
The youth all seem very talented

Go RMU...

Doubt there will be any practice info until end of September. They do have an open practice/scrimmage/midnight madness type event (usually starts around 9pm about 2 weeks before the season starts).

As for jumping conferences, I just dont see it working in the MAAC. It would be great for basketball, but tough for the other programs (more travel) and more importantly, football would be lost. That would seem to be the biggest holdup. I also don't think its a big enough jump for RMU to risk it. They have a good thing going in the NEC on the court and many of the other programs are doing great. Is the MAAC THAT much better than the NEC in basketball?

I dont think so.

It certainly is stronger (especially at the top, Iona/ Manhattan) but it has transitioned over well in NCAA play. Manhattan was a 16 play-in last year (who lost in that game), a 13 before and then 15 15, 15, 14 the prior years. It's better, but not much better.

The year RMU lost to MSM (NEC semi's?) and beat UK in the NIT, they probably would have been a 14 or even 13 seed out of the NEC. I would be careful to break up a good thing.

The MAAC is also still a one bid league. Only Iona ha got the conference an at-large and they snuck in as the last team in the tournament a few years back.

RMU should be shooting for the CAA for all sports including football, though they would have to increase their football scholarships. The CAA took a huge hit after VCU, George Mason, and ODU left but its still a much better league than the NEC and has bigger "name" teams than the MAAC (Drexel, Charleston, Delaware, Hofstra, etc).
