Although there has not been an official announcement yet, it seems to be official that Kyle Griffin has been hired as an assistant coach by Andy Toole. Kyle comes from Lehigh where he has been an assistant for the past three years. Prior to that he worked for Hoop Group, which seems to be the best path to becoming a college coach these days. He was a 6'3" guard on LaSalle's basketball team out of high school, but then transferred to Siena and graduated from there, where he was an excellent student in addition to being on the basketball team. His college career was hampered by knee injuries. His father was an outstanding player at Lehigh, and his mother played at Pitt. In many ways he seems to be a younger version of Andy Toole.
Welcome Kyle! Go Colonials!

Welcome Kyle! Go Colonials!

He seems like a solid addition to the basketball coaching staff at RMU...

What # assistant was he at Lehigh?

Go RMU....

He was not the top assistant, so he was either the 2 or 3, or those two were equal. Kyle would seem to be a bright young coach who is on the rise and is coming from a quality program. It appears to be an impressive hire by Coach Toole. I had hoped the new assistant would be a big man, to work with our big men, rather than, once again, having a staff made up of all coaches who were guards in their playing days. However, since Kyle is about 6'3", and he is replacing Joey Gallo, the coaching staff picked up about 10" in height, so I guess that's a big improvement in that area.;)

By the way, according to Lehigh's basketball website, Kyle's Recruiting territories: PA, NJ, NY, OH, WV, KY, IN, MI, TN
