What. A. Basketball. Game.
Down eight with just over two minutes to go in OT, the game looked lost. Then..Rodney Pryor three. Bang. Lucky Jones steal, basket, foul. Free throw. Bang. Just like that the Colonials were down just two. They went on to hit some clutch shots, got some clutch stops, and ultimately, Lucky Jones wasn't losing on HIS day. Greg Brown drove to tie the game, Jones stood tall, took a charge RIGHT in the chest, and went down and nailed two free throws to clinch a huge comeback win.
Three thoughts....
First off, THAT is the type of guts and will this team has lacked this season. Now, they seem to have the magic. Was it the Aaron Tate tip in vs CCSU that sparked the change in demeanor? I don't know. What I know is this. Championship teams find ways to win these games. Robert Morris found a way.
Second, Rodney Pryor is still rolling. He dropped 22 points (though it took 20 shots tonight). He may not have been as efficient as you would like, but when it mattered most, Pryor was not phased. With the game slipping away in overtime, it was Pryor's three that sparked the comeback. Rodney seems to have found a comfort zone within the offense, and is playing his best ball at the right time of season to do just that.
Lastly, I feel so damn good for Lucky Jones. What a warrior. What a player. He is what Robert Morris basketball represents. Under recruited, hard nosed, willing to fight for every inch. He plays the game like it's the last game of his career, every time he steps on the floor. He's done this for four years. You can't ask for anything more as a teammate, coach, or fan. Flash forward to this game, his last regular season game at the Chuck. He makes every play imaginable down the stretch, including a game saving charge. That is so Luck. Not a game winning three, block or steal. A charge. Right to the chest. Thank you Luck, for everything over the past four years.
A few more for fun, cause that game was awesome. Marcquise was a bit off, but it did not phase him at the line with the game on the line. He nailed both clutch free throws. Elijah Minnie was awesome. Awesome. The kid has come so far from the start of the season. Huge game, killed it on the glass, and his outlet to Lucky Jones in OT was a huge play in the comeback.
NEC tournament is set. 1 SFBK vs 8 LIU, 2 RMU vs 7 WAG, 3 BRY vs 6 SHU, 4 MSM vs 5 SFPA. Some VERY interesting match-ups.
Much more to come on Colonials Corner.
