A question for Andrew, Original_RMC and anyone else who is more knowledgeable about football X & Os than I am, which is probably just about everyone who follows Colonials Corner.

With the Colonials making such drastic changes to their offense, does that necessitate changes in approach or style to the defense?

Outside of the conditioning increasing team-wide as a result of the installation of an up-tempo offense, there haven't been many changes to the defensive side in terms of scheme.

Scott Farison works with his fellow defensive assistants on making some tweaks every year, something most coaches do as a response to what worked or didn't work and what kind of personnel is available. But the basics are still there. RMU is still running a 3-4 defense with the capability of shifting to a 4-3 depending on the scenario, although they haven't practiced the latter too much because of the shortage of linemen in spring ball.

Considering the defense has been pretty strong over the last decade, there's no reason to change a whole lot.

You probably won't see a major shift within the defense but you will probably notice is calls getting into the defense at a higher pace this year. The pace of practices are going to force the defense to adjust as to how they get calls in which will benefit them throughout the season.
