What a game! Down 13, back against the wall, the Colonials came out swinging! RMU used a big second half to erase a 13 point deficit, and defeated North Florida in the First Four in Dayton Ohio. They move on into the the South Region, where the Duke Blue Devils await.
Cant say it enough, Marcquise Reed is a beast. He's so good, and he's a stone cold killer. Struggling for three week now, Reed --with his team down 13-- flipped the switch. A personal 9-0 run sparked the Colonials, and Lucky Jones finished the job.
That was just awesome. First team since the 12 UK Wildcats to have three players finish with 18 plus points in the NBA tournament.
Reed, who saved the Colonials when the game was floundering --just like he did this season when things weren't going RMU's way-- finished with 19 points.
How bout Lucky Jones. Was that his best overall game of the season? It was up there. 21 points, seven rebounds, and countless big plays on the defensive end. His passion in the second half is what March Madness is all about! So happy for Luck, this is the way he deserves to close out his career.
Rodney Pryor hit big shot after big shot. You can make the argument that he will be the Pre Season NEC POY next season. 20 points, including a nice 5-0 late to help RMU take control. On that three he hit late, Aaron Tate did Aaron Tate things. A BRICK WALL screen freed Pryor up, and the ball didnt hit rim.
Once these three got going, the offense was there. 52 second half points! Elijah Minnie joined the fun, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Minnie continues to thrive.
The defense woke up second half when Andy Toole started mixing and matching. Excellent effort on both ends! The Colonials forced 19 turnovers, and only turned it over five times on the game including ZERO in the second half.
Awesome win, one that we should not forget for a long time!
Go Colonials.
