Hey guys. This post will be rather short, as I’ve been feeling extremely under the weather the last two nights. Anyway, here’s a quick preview of the game today at Bryant.
The Colonials are coming off of a blowout win at CCSU. In a game they needed to win, they did so in impressive fashion. The game wasn’t as close as the final score suggests. A late first-half push from RMU carried all the way over into the second half; CCSU was never able to regroup. Kavon Stewart and Elijah Minnie both scored 15 points, as this duo is starting to finally play at a high level collectively. When Rodney Pryor returns, the Colonials have a real shot to make some noise in the NEC. But first and foremost: Today’s game at Bryant. The Bryant Bulldogs will try and defend their home court and continue their fine play. The Bulldogs come in at 4-3 in conference play. RMU-Bryant games are always very exciting. The last time these two teams met was in the NEC- semi final game at the Chuck last season. Anyone that knows a lick or two about basketball are fully aware that Robert Morris does not win that game is Kavon Stewart played the way he did. However, the Colonials will be shorthanded once again, as Rodney Pryor and Andre Frederick are both doubtful. Backup PG Jordan Lester has also been ruled out for this contest.
The Bulldogs are counting on Hunter Ware to lead them, as Ware is averaging 13.7 ppg. Veteran point guard Shane McLaughlin is playing 37.9 minutes a night, and is the floor general for coach O’Shea’s Bulldogs. Colonials fan know about McLaughlin’s ability to shoot the basketball from beyond the arc, as he’s shooting just under 45% from three. Matty McConnell and Kavon have to do a solid job of rotating. They need to limit his shot attempts as much as possible. If not, we’ve seen that will happen if the Colonials leave proven three-point shooters open. Marcel Pettway and Nisre Zouzoua are both averaging 10.7 ppg. Dan Garvin rounds out the starting five; Garvin is a beast down low and can give opposing defenses fits if he’s on top of his game. Shorthanded, the Colonials need other guys to step up again. Conrad Stephens? Steve Whitley? Anybody really. This team finally looks like it’s starting to come together at the right time and to be honest, after the Mount game, this team has played surprisingly well without Pryor. Will it continue today? Tune in to ESPN3 at 4:00 P.M.
