When Brian Urso was hired as Pittsburgh Central Catholic's new basketball coach, I was a little surprised that he told reporters that he would be continuing as RMU's director of basketball administration, too. Seemed like a potential conflict of interest.

Well, apparently it is, and Urso may have violated some high school basketball rules and RMU may have violated some NCAA rules.

RMU would probably get a slap on the wrist if anything is officially deemed illegal. Probably wouldn't lose scholarships or anything like that. Maybe some light recruiting restrictions for a year or something.

I am no expert in NCAA rules, but it defies logic why Urso continued his position on the staff at RMU once he accepted the high school position. I suspect that we will learn that his position at Central Catholic did not officially begin until after he officially resigned at RMU and that the RMU head coach and administrators will state that they were totally unaware that Urso was doing things, properly or improperly, related to his new position. No doubt RMU will argue that Urso was not an assistant coach and not involved in recruiting at RMU so they believed certain NCAA rules did not apply. Regardless, even if the people at RMU believed everything was legitimate, from an appearance standpoint it defies logic that Urso remained on the staff once he accepted the high school position.

Ya either he’s on staff here full time or moves on somewhere else.
