The opening for assistant basketball coach is now posted on RMU's official site. This opening is due to Joey Gallo leaving for a head coaching position elsewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions for Coach Toole regarding who he should hire? A quality I believe is vital is the ability to relate to the players on a personal level to try to keep players in the program. Possibly Velton Jones if he still has any interest in getting into coaching. Although I would also like to see a big man hired to work with the big men in practice. That is, someone at least a foot taller than Coach Gallo!

So, Mike Rice it is - coming back to RMU, this time as Andy Toole's assistant. Well probably not, although it would be okay with me. I suspect Coach Toole has already identified an assistant coach to replace Joey Gallo. Has anyone heard anything?

Maybe... I wouldn't mind that either...

Plus, if/when Toole leaves down the road in the future, he could take over the ship as head coach too...

I'd love/like the hire for sure

I think he is going to go with Tyler Bluemling. Strong Mt Lebo connection and Tyler had a half descent career at the other D1-AA school in Pittsburgh. I think Andy would like working with him and help bring a young coach along.

My preference would be for the new assistant to be a big man to work with our big men.

Kyle Griffin, currently an asst. coach at Lehigh, per Hoopdirt. Seems to be a younger version of Andy Toole. Another hoop group product.
