Robert Morris won the two biggest awards in the Northeast Conference Tuesday when senior guard Karvel Anderson and head coach Andrew Toole walked away with major post-season honors.

Anderson was named the league's Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring and becoming just the third player in Robert Morris history to surpass 1,000 points in a two-year career. “A lot of things have happened for me to get to this point,”
Anderson said. “It makes it feel like all of the stuff back in the day was
worth it.”

The transfer from Glen Oaks Community College is averaging 19.6 points per game as Robert Morris prepares to open up the NEC Tournament. Anderson was also part of the All-NEC first team. “He’s had a spectacular year,” Toole said. “I’m so happy for him because of the way he works, the way he prepares himself, what he puts into the team and the game. It’s a well-deserving honor.”

Toole was named the league's Coach of the Year after guiding RMU to a 14-2 conference record while overcoming numerous obstacles. "I’m obviously honored to get it, but it’s an award that’s shared by many, many people who are involved in this program," Toole said. Robert Morris played the league's toughest non-conference schedule, one that's among the most grueling in the nation, and lost six players from the roster for various reasons over the course of two weeks in January. Despite having only eight players for games and practices, Toole guided Robert Morris to the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament.

Robert Morris forward Lucky Jones was also recognized Tuesday, earning All-NEC second team honors. Jones averaged 13.6 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game in the regular season. The junior also surpassed the 1,000 point mark and 600 rebound mark this season. “That’s a great accomplishment as well,” Jones said. “But at the same time, we can’t worry about personal accolades. We’ve got to worry about getting to the championship and taking it a game at a time.”

Anderson is the sixth Robert Morris player to earn Player of the Year honors, and the first since Jeremy Chappell did it in 2008-09. Toole is the school's fourth coach to earn Coach of the Year honors, and the first since his former boss, Mike Rice, accomplished it in 2007-08 and 2008-09.
