The Colonials fought hard, but Saint Francis ultimately got the best of Robert Morris, defeating them 68-57 on Thursday evening. The game was televised on ESPNU and an unusually fast start by the Colonials kept the Charles L. Sewall Center rockin’ for a lot of the first half. With Elijah Minnie’s dismissal from the program, Robert Morris was already shorthanded offensively. Prior to the game, it was announced that soaring freshman Isaiah Still would miss three games due to violating the Athletic Department’s policy. Still’s suspension is just another blow to the gut for this program. At this point, is anyone surprised? Unfortunately, no.

Saint Francis PA remained tied for first place with the win, as this team finally looks to be piecing everything together. Ronnie Drinnon and Greg Brown have really stepped up their play from a year ago. They are established veterans on this team and their on-court leadership certainly shows, as the offense seems to flow and run best through them. Senior sharpshooter Ben Millaud- Meunier continued his hot streak, scoring 14 points and really spreading the floor with his consistency from beyond the arc. Coach Andy Toole said after the game that he loves watching the Red Flash play, as they are such an exciting, yet disciplined basketball team.

Billy Giles played very well for the Colonials, notching 11 points and pulling down six boards. Rodney Pryor led Robert Morris with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Matty McConnell started out matching a couple of threes with Millaud-Meunier, but otherwise struggled with his shot the rest of the game. Kavon Stewart got to the rim, but was a bit out of control, and as Toole pointed out, took a few ill-advised shots.

The offense noticeably struggled in the second half and not paying attention to the scouting report, as coach Toole mentioned, proved costly for the Colonials. Playing against such a good team in the Red Flash, you can’t afford to make as many mistakes as the Colonials did.

They can’t make those mistakes today against FDU. FDU, currently tied for first place, will want to keep pace atop the NEC standings. The Colonials got the better of FDU the last time these two teams met, as Conrad Stephens’ coming out party was the game and momentum changer. Elijah Minnie also scored 17 points against the Knights, so the offense will obviously have to come from elsewhere tonight. Rodney Pryor looks to finally be almost back to full strength, however he will need to shoot more efficiently and not the turn the ball over. Matty McConnell had his worst shooting performance as a Colonial last time out, so McConnell will need to be strong with his shot tonight, as Isaiah Still will not be suiting up again (out for two more games).

Billy Giles has been the Colonials’ most efficient player as of late, so feeding him in the post can potentially change the entire dynamic of this offense. When Billy’s offensive game is present, it’s only an extra boost for this team because of the options and versatility he provides playing the middle. Robert Morris remains in the eighth and final playoff spot in the NEC. In order to keep pace and possibly gain some ground, they will need to pull the upset off in Jersey, as this FDU team is hungry for a win against the Colonials.

Nice win yesterday. One more game without Still.

Can we still make a run??

We will see...
