Robert Morris seems to always play a HUGE game at Bryant, in the Chase Athletic Center late in the season. Each and every time they have walked a way victorious. Saturday was NOOOO different.
Three thoughts on today's win, and then a few more for good purpose.
1) I cant put into words how awesome that game was. Both teams played extremely well, knocking down tough shot after tough shot. Bryant made 14 threes, and were led by Dyami Starks who had 18. Robert Morris struggled at times to get stops and left Bryant open a few too many times. Interestingly enough, RMU got their two biggest stops out of a full court press, and a man to man switching defense. Credit Toole, and the guys, for going to the man and executing on the defensive end when it mattered most.
2) Loaded Luck was back, and in a bigggg way. The senior, coming off a two game suspension, provided a huge lift off the bench. He scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. He also made a three late in the game as Bryant appeared to be pulling away, got fouled, and converted the four point play. Huge game, huge moment, and the senior stepped up.
3) Robert Morris is now 3-0 on the road against the top 3 teams in the NEC, Bryant, SFBK and the Mount. This is obviously an awesome stat no matter what the makeup if your team is, but even more impressive given the fact that RMU relies on so many young players. Today, Elijah Minnie played the best game of his career, scoring 12 points including a quick 7 right out of the half to give RMU a lead. Marcquise Reed hit some big shots and FT's down the stretch, and helped engineer the late comeback scoring 13 in the process. Rodney Pryor, who is not a freshman but is playing his first year of D1 ball, was the MVP. Pryor had every answer to the Bulldogs, making huge three after huge three, and also made the game winning layup. He finished with a game high 24.
Some extras: Aaron Tate and Leo Gomis were awesome on the interior. Gomis played his best game in an RMU uniform. RMU finished with 16 offensive boards, allowing only 9 to Bryant. Rebounding is huge, and RMU finally won that battle.
Kavon Stewart played a solid game, but his drive late was far more than solid. That's the best play he has ever made in an RMU uniform. Destroyed the D of the bounce, two bigs came to him, perfectly touched layoff to Rodney...and the game winning bucket was a simple layup. That was GREAT work from Kavon.
This was a complete team effort. If RMU plays like this, they will be a threat in the NEC tournament. Best game they have played in awhile.
SFBK clinched the regular season title tonight. They own the 1 seed. RMU is in a three way tie for 2nd with Bryant and MSM but currently owns the tiebreakers. Win both games at Sewall next week, and RMU will be the two seed. #PackTheChuck
That's all for now...Go Colonials.
