Great, great post ORMC. On paper, St Francis and especially DUQ, have a good QB waiting in wings. St. Francis does have that really good WR coming back, and DUQ has Hines to help them out.

I think, assuming RMU can get a QB to lead them, the NEC top 3 will all be Western PA.

2017 NEC Rankings based off returning talent :

SFU
WAG
RMU
DUQ
SHU
BRY
CCSU

ORMC nailed got to find an answer at QB and keep him healthy.

Recruiting priorities - so we have been talking about the QB and OL positions all season. Are those positions recruiting priorities?
Or, are the four or five QBs returning good enough, and hopefully they stay healthy. And, are we confident that these young O-linemen that are getting a lot of playing time this year will step up next season? Which positions on the team need to be addressed, the most, in recruiting? It seems the defense may have more holes to fill.

Some questions on the recruiting so I thought I would try and do some research on offers and such, all information was found via twitter, rivals, scoutingpa, scoutingohio.com, Scout.com. Sorry for the length on this, I will try to do this for each position.

QB: Returning
Matt Barr- RS Sophomore
Chase Bodeman- RS Frosh
Andrew Romanchak RS Soph
Luke Brumbaugh -RS Senior
Joe Carroll- RS Senior
Both the last two have the options to return but there has been talk of job acceptance on here regarding these two.

QB: Offered
Alex Smith Keystone Oaks - Duq Commit
Darius Coker Pickerington North (OH) - RMU seems to be his lone offer
Isaiah Robinson St. Francis (MD)- RMU and EKU offers

QB: Potential Offer
I know there has been a lot of chatter regarding JUCO QB's I would assume the reason we don't see any offers out at "this" moment is due to the staff really evaluating film. Most know its tough to "Miss" on a JUCO. There are two instate options the Colonials could look at.

Sam Castronova - Erie Community College http://www.hudl.com/athlete/6205329/sam-castronova

David Pindell - Lackawanna College, He claims Buffalo and Louisiana Lafayette

RB Returning :

Cole Blake- RS Jr
- How does the workhorse comeback from surgery, will be something to watch in spring ball and camp.
Sam Woods - RS JR has battled injuries his career at RMU. Could he be one of the guys to move on ?
Malik Wells - JR seems to have really benifted with more carries just a hard nose runner
Dante Satcher- JR can the explosiveness on KO RET translate to more big plays as an RB.
Derek Albert RS FRO- Complete Unknown
Harrison Dreher RS FRO- Cant wait to see what this clairton product can do on the Field.

Overall seems to be a very deep position returning.

RB Offered :

Braxton Chapman
Farrell High school - Big back who seems to punish people has YSU, Army, Lafayette,SFU to go along with RMU

Darius Wise Beaver High School - Just a pure stud athlete, Has BYU, Colo ST, Duq, EMU, MI OH, Virginia to go along with RMU

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2650427

Zane Dudek Armstrong - Has set nearly every WPIAL rushing record it seems in an unforgettable year. Has Air Force, Army, Brown, Bucknell, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton, Yale to go along with RMU.

DeWayne Murray Steele Valley- Powered a strong steele valley team this season. Has Army, Buffalo, Cincy, EMU, Kent, Old Dom, Stony Brook, Toledo to go along with RMU.

Seems to me the coaching staff is setting the sights high on this position maybe realizing the talent they have coming back and are shooting for the stars and only the stars at the RB position. Anyone of these kids would have to be a take in my opinion.

Colonial Fanatic, that is great stuff. Looking forward to seeing more.

Edit: I think at least 1 QB, probably 2 will need to be brought in if Carroll and Brumbaugh graduate. I think we have all seen enough evidence for the need to have backups.

RB: That is a deep group, and the coaches strategy to really reach for one there makes sense.

FB: Good group, great job filling that hole by coaches this past recruiting cycle. All are getting playing time, so hopefully no defections from that group.

Edit 2: I think that Isaiah Robinson would be a great addition to the team. He was invited to crab bowl down in MD. So I expect his recruitment to pick up.

FB Returning :

Blake Skuratowicz Soph
Jonathan Wanat Soph
Alex Hundemer Soph

All three have seen playing time in different aspects skuratowicz has done a nice job blocking and making plays out of the backfield in the passing game. Wanat has done a nice job on special teams and Hundemer has filled the LS role very nice.

FB Offers :

NONE

Looks like the staff is good with the out put of these three and will ride with them into next year.

Don't forget Duane Brown RB Apollo Ridge who verbally committed to RMU.

And is a BEAST! I expect him to get some offers, at least MAC schools if he hasn't yet. RMU was loyal to him with his injury, hopefully he sticks!

I watched Darius wise on tv the other night, he might be the most electrifying player in the entire state. What a phenomenal athlete, he would be a steal if he stayed close to home. He reminds me of a multi dimensional Robert foster, who played at Central Valley a few years back and went to Alabama to play reciever. I'm anxious to see your analysis on the OL and the kids we have offered so far to come in the next recruiting class

I was going to include Duane Brown in my Wide Receivers Analysis as I thought I read that he would be playing there in some article. Regardless kids a stud !!

Tight Ends Returning :

Reggie Green RS SR
- Has had the chance to make some big plays this season but hasn't capitalized. All and all doing a nice job at TE
Mike Woltz RS SR- Saw him on a couple special teams looks to have been passed by Gonzo
Kaleb Springer RS SR- Not alot of action
Matt Gonzo Soph- Was a big fan of gonzo when the colonials signed him out of St. Eds in Cleveland just a matchup nightmare. Saw a little more of that against CCSU.

Have four bodies returning, three of which are RS SR and two that have seen playing time. I would imagine at least one body being brought in to compete in the fall.

TE Offered :

Mac Christy Knoch -
Looks to have been the best player on the field for Knoch as he was playing QB in the film I saw. Son of former NFLer Jeff Christy. Claims offers from Maine and Slippery Rock as well as RMU.

Josh Burgett Grove City OH - Big body kid listed at 6'5 240 that moves well in the passing game and is physical on the point of attack with blocks. Claims YSU, ODU, Valpo, Lake Erie, and Notre Damn Collge offers to go along with RMU

Matt Holmes West A- A bit on the smaller side listed at 6'1 225 but is very quick and plays with a fast motor off the edge of Defensive. Not alot of senior film on O but looks like some one that could kick out on power and lead on ISO.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2658166/matt-holmes

Would be nice to see the colonials land another local Product in Mac Christy or Matt Holmes. However the size of the burgett kid is very intriguing

I think I also read they are bringing in Duane brown in to play reciever, he looks like a great reciever. Hopefully he stays true to his commitment. I think what helps this class is that Brayden thimons from highlands (LB) is helping to get this new recruiting class together and gel and stay committed. That's great to see a senior in high school already take that leadership to help recruit. That's a great trait

We will learn more from Colonial Fanatics posts, but seems they are getting a great group from Western PA.

WR Returning :

Jordan Blackmon RS SR -
Appears to have Been passed by the younger guys on the depth chart
Jamison Williams SR- See Blackmon but also I believe has alot to do with Injury, Played alot early on in his career.
Eldin Anu SR - Started the season as a starter has really made an impact on the punt unit as a gunner.
Warren Robinson JR - Would love to see the ball in his hands more Jet Sweeps and quick hitters to this elusive athlete
DeLano Madison Soph - Freshman seson had high expectations but never really seemed to setttle in. Will look to rebound
Tim Vecchio Soph - Kid is a good as advertised coming out of PT. Imagine if we completed as many balls as DUQ this kid would own every record by the end of his career. Just doesnt drop balls
Trey Edwards Soph - Kid is a play maker in the waiting it seems like. Just need to get him the ball in space.
Brandon Magee Soph - Seemed to really struggle with making plays this year, looked to be on the light side. That is the downside of playing 18 year olds.
Dj Sommers RS FR - Never seemed to hear anything about this kid, Injuries appear to be the cause.
Aiden Howard RS FR - The UVA scandle behind him, expect big things for the Gateway Product.

As is the case with most of the offense seems to be alot of real youth here. I differ with alot on the board who believed there were tons of WR open this year. To me it seemed like the group struggled getting off press coverage and finding holes in zones. One thing I will say it does seem like this group isnt afraid to mix it up and throw some blocks.

WR Committed :

Sterling Armstrong Centerburg OH -
6'3 200 receiver. Competition looks a little skeptical but the kid makes plays.

http://www.hudl.com/profile/2733294/sterling-armstrong-armstrong14

Duane Brown Apollo Ridge - 5'11 185 ATH I wanted to list him as an ATH because it would surprise me to see this kid end up in the BackField as well lined up out wide. Kid is a play maker. Rebounded after a tough ACL Injury to come back and play the last half of his senior year.

WR Recruiting

Jack Young Mt. Lebo -
6'2 185 To me looks like the best prospect at WR that the colonials can land. Big, long, athletic kid that goes up and makes plays. Claims Navy, Bucknell, Cornell, Duq, Dartmouth, Air Force

Ryan Lezzer Clearfield PA - 6'0 185 do it all type of player. Kid is a heck of an athlete can play either side of the ball. Has offers from about every FCS school and small FBS.

Derrell Carter Beaver Falls PA - 5'11 165 Seems to me in the mold of Warren And Lano slot type of kid SPEED SPEED. Has offers from EMU, Howard, Townson to go along with RMU.

Niko Rice John Carroll MD - 6'0 183 but seems to play bigger than that on film. Claims offers from Bryant, Harvard, Howard to go along with RMU.

Would really love for RMU to land one outside receiver in the mold of a Jack Young, Seems like our current WR core could use some height to it. Although you still do get Aiden Howard back next season. I would look for RMU to try and take maybe one more Playmaker at the position.

I think Aidan Howard is going to make a huge impact next season. I'm not sure of the status of Jamison Williams. He played as a freshman, and was pushed down the depth chart last season, and spent this season injured. I think it is important to have another tall reciever, especially if Aidan is the only one we have returning

Colonial Fanatic this is great you got me looking two or three times a day to see the next group breakdown. Well Done

OL Returning :

Drew Garbenis RS SR
- Saw action in One game this season due to injury. Has battled injuries for his career it seems like.
Blake Chamblis RS SR - Has played tackle and guard over his career. Was replaced by Boyette last week. Should battle for one of the five sports next year.
Mike Lamb RS JR - See chamblis has moved all over the line during his career, to me is better suited inside but had a good game against Derek Rivers in 15 from YSU. Should compete for a role.
Justin Boyette RS JR - Wild card here got his first career start last week and seemed to do a pretty good job. Will be an interesting story line to follow over the spring and fall camp.
Ian Bjuro RS JR - Has really battled injuries during his time as a colonial. Was a JUCO product after starting his career at Lousiana Lafaytte.
Dan Creter RS Soph -Has seen limited action this season should provide some depth for next season. As we have seen can never have enough OL Depth.
Harrison Everley RS Soph - See Creter minus the action.
Rene Rodriguez Soph - Has really improved during the season could be a staple at LT for years to come for the colonials. Only down side is he is listed at 275. ORMC can tell you how tough it is to battled week in and week out, need to bulk him up.
Conner Mundy Soph - Has he become the leader of this offense ? Named captain for an early game as a true frosh. That is pretty impressive !!
Max Potokar RS FR - Saw him alot early on but I believe he battled injuries ? Expect big things from this big fellow in his health is right.
Matt Fennell Soph - Has really battled and improved over the season struggled early on but has consistantly gotten better Rodreiguez, Mundy and Fennell are definetely something coach richardson and miller can build off for the future.
Corey Schidner Soph - See Creter
Eric Mcallister RS FR - Local product that had to sit out the season after transferring from Army. Will look to battle for an inside position next year.

As wise man once told me the best teams in college football go 15 deep at the OL position. We have already seen this year the importance of depth on the OL spot. Looks like a bright future for Coach Richardson as we have seen the progress this OL has shown. Could the colonials take 2 possibly 3 more OL this class ?

OL Recruiting :

Alex Minford South Fayette -
Looks to be an interior guy to me could be a C or Guard. Comes from a winning program. Could RMU be looking for a Nick Faraci clone ? Claims offers from Georgetown, Columbia, to go along with RMU

Reece Schuetz Dublin Scioto OH - Kid is nasty bit on the small side ? Could he be looked at as blocking TE ? Wonder what ORMC thinks of this kid ? Looks like a better interior DL prospect.

Adam Sedzmak Struthers OH - Big Physical kid that could looks like he could play inside or tackle. Reminds me of Fennell a bit.

Trevor Hicks Washington Courthouse OH - Reminds me alot of Rene moves very well at the tackle position looks like he could add some weight.

A class of Minford Hicks and Sedzmak would have to make Coach Richardson and Miller happy about the depth they added to the group.

All, appreciate the kind words, Just an old time college football junkie giving his opinion. Will try to start on the defensive side either tomorrow or next week. Headed out of town to see the little grandson compete in his flag football championship. As always Go Colonials !!!

Yes, awesome work Colonial Fanatic!

Regarding Mcallister, I thought that he did not have to sit out since he did not actually transfer from Army. He attended Army Prep last year. I was of the impression that he has been injured, but I could be wrong. Does anyone know about his situation?

It looks as though we should have a lot of good players, with the potential to step up, coming back next season, plus what looks to be a great recruiting class being put together. Go Colonials!

Yes Mcallister was eligible this season but needed shoulder surgery I believe so he couldn't play. He will be good to go for next season

This thread has me very excited. I believe we will see an enormous jump next year in the product on the field. The shear depth and experience coming into camp next year should be substantial.

I totally agree, I hope it comes to fruition. Because I felt the same last year, then you saw what happened..

Kimani smith and tank got kicked out of school, can Sutherland as well

Cole and Jimmy did their acl in spring ball

Grant Lanza, trgovich, and goose didn't make it back.

Thiel and Lucian had to hang it up for injuries.

3 qb's transferred out.

Fast forward to the season, half the starting lineup is suspended for a game or two, and we lose Kyle buss, ram Owens to transfers, Andy smigiera to injury, and we lose 4 qbs to injury.

If we can avoid having this happen again, I think rmu is a top 2 team next season

Wow, it really was a case of everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
Good summary of the player losses.
Every college program is going to have losses due to injuries, transfers, disciplinary issues and who knows what else, but the number of losses for the Colonials since the end of last season has to be an anomaly. Losses will occur before next season, but hopefully more in line with the norm with other FCS programs.

DL Returning :

Zach Zamiska RS SR-
Becomes the defacto leader of the group has played well this season expecting big things from the big guy in the middle next year
Nick Lamica RS SR - Has he finally found a home on the defensive line ? Has done a nice job is pass rush situations. Look forward to him having a whole spring and summer camp under Coach Coleman.
Amir Fenwick JR- Really like what I have seen of this big man just gobbles up rushing attacks when he is in there.
Chris Stanford Soph- Didn't see him on the field this past week against Bryant don't know if it was injury or what. Has been very promising and has lived up to expectations coming out of Penn Trafford.
Derian Smith RS Fr - Was really the early surprise for me of the defense until he got hurt against Malone. Was doing some nice things on pass rush situations. Was a late addition to the Colonials recruiting class if I recall correctly.
Stephon Mingo RS FR - Big body kid who hopefully has gotten his skills honed in after a red shirt year with Coach Coleman
Justus StubbleField RS FR- Havent heard much about him
Anthony Lang RS FR - See Stubblefield

DL Committed :

Izon Pulley Good Counsel MD
- A 6'5 260 prospect formally committed to The U and Illinois. Has to be one the better gets for the Colonials. Expect to see him push for some reps in the similar to Chris Stanford.

http://www.hudl.com/profile/1909619/izon-pulley

Eddie Kachmarek Tucker County WV - 6'6 230 prospect who appears to have been the first commit in the class based on the time of his commitment. Looks like an above average pass rusher. Will need to add some bulk to his huge frame.

Greg Rose DeMatha MD- 6'3 250 DL out of a nationally ranked program in DeMatha High. Coach Coleman seems to be doing a great job reloading talent.

Seems to me like i cant say it enough but we lose two solid seniors in Ryan Lewis and Swiss Steve but we just RELOAD with talent on this side of the ball. Look for big things from the DLINE next season. Think they are done bringing in DL unless another stud or transfer comes open like Pully

LB Returning :

Jimmy Masson RS SR -
How does he return from an ACL injury could really determine the roation at LB for the up coming season. Had a really solid JR campagin.
Gerald Ferguson SR - Has seen situation playing time since his arrival. Has also done a nice job on special teams. Will probably battle Masson for the open OLB spot opposite of Stanley.
Joseph Uhatafe SR - Has done a nice job in first season as a starter look for him to build on this season.
David Steele RS JR - Looks to have been passed on the Depth Chart by younger guys but is still making plays on special teams.
Adam Wollet JR - Will be his second season as a starter and is having a very productive season this year on and off the field. Kid was just named academic all district with a 4.0 in Economics.
Tyler Lamica Soph - Has seen spot duty this season as a Frosh will compete for playing time next season.
Gee Stanley Soph - Can he build on what appears to be an all league freshman season as a pass rusher ? Will want to seem him become more of a complete player and add some bulk to his frame.
Sunny Tapp Soph - Has seen more playing time in recent weeks just dont know where or if there will be enough snaps during a game to get him on the field next season.
Scott Goodwill RS Soph - How does he rebound after an ACL injury has kept him out this season.
Darrian Harris RS Soph - Not a whole lot of info on this kid has to sit out due to transferring from Rutgers.
Nick Sully RS Soph - Seems to be behind on the depth chart maybe a special teams guy ?
Devon DeFrances RS Soph - Has seen time on special teams this season, could be his role next year as well.

Lots and lots of talent coming back from this position group. How do Masson and Goodwill come back from ACL injuries ? Can Stanley build on his great Freshman Season as a pass rusher ? The two middle spots have alot of talent coming back in Uhatafe and Wollet and tapp.

LB's Committed :

Brayden Thimons Highlands PA -
Listed at 6'4 235 has become the leader for this recruiting class which is such a great thing to see from a young man. Played QB and OLB/MLB for highlands. Could see him slated for either OLB or MLB but think he starts in the middle.

Frank Antuono Neshannock PA - Listed at 6'2 225 like Thimons he was an early commit and play QB on offense. Looks to be also slated for the MLB spot.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3695297/frank-antuono

So the Colonials Lose just Cooper from the LB core this year but replace him with two local studs. Dont want to sound like a broken record but it appears the Colonial Defense just RELOADS with talent. Great to see them also with such a strong local presence. I cant imagine they take any more than the two committed because of all the talent still here.

After looking a tad hat players are coming back, and what players are committed at this time, I think the defense is good to go. Maybe add a safety or two but for the defense I think they are set. I fully expect them to be even better next season. That moves us to offense. I have 3 places on offense that need hit hard in recruiting:

1. Quarterback- we are down to our 5th QB this season. I know you can't prepare for that. But the facts of the matter are that we haven't had an above average QB at rmu since Paul jones departure a few years back. At some point we need to get results from that position, and until we do it needs hit HARD in recruiting.

2. Offensive line- we have seen this line go through injuries much like the QB position. Understandably, they are gonna take their lumps, especially with 4 new starters, and multiple freshman. I fully count on eric Mcallister being a starter next season and all the guys currently here to come back. However, this season it has been a weakness, and a couple high level recruits would not only build depth, but increase competition which is something much needed up front.

3. Running back- once again, a position depleted by injuries. We are down to RB 5 and 6 on the depth chart from a few months back. You will have cole coming back, satcher, Sam woods, Malik, and Tj Neal, however I still feel it is important to build more quality depth at that position. You never plan for that many injuries, but if you can build some more quality depth, it will also help competition there as well

DB's Returning :

Andy Smigeria RS SR -
How does he come back from injury, Expect him to be the leader of this team / Defense.
Ryan Richards SR - Four year starter having arguably his best season this year, look for him to continue his improvement into his senior year.
Drew Allen SR - Four year starter but would like to see him become more physical as a run defender seems to miss to many tackles .
Roger Richardson JR -
Has seen playing time throughout his career will battle for one of the corner spots with Allen & Sott with what ever one not winning, filling in as the nickle back in passing situations.
Drew Hogan RS JR - Special Teams Player
Heavon Price RS JR - Transfer from Marietta but a local prospect from Woody High. Adds quality depth.
Tevaul Brown RS Soph - Special teams player this year looks to behind the first tier group of DBs
Anthony Pompey RS Soph - See Tevaul Brown
Ty'ion Powe RS Soph - Hasn't seen the field in his two years here. Looks to be a depth player.
Travon Stott Soph - True frosh starter who has seen his ups and downs this season but continues to battle each week. Bright future ahead for him.
Jonah Lisbon Soph - Saw action early on the year on defense has seen some time in nickle situations as well. As well as special teams. Look for him to battle for a nickle spot.

All and All looks to be another deep senior lead position. You lose arguably the best player on the team in M. Branch who wouldnt surprise me to see make an NFL practice squad.

DB's Recruiting :

Jonathan Muehlbauer Thomas Jefferson PA-
Listed at 6'2 185, looks like on film he could be a dangerous offensive weapon as well. If he does end up on it would surprise me to see him as a Safety. Big body kid who moves very well for his size. Claims Monmouth and Lafayette offers to go along with RMU

Spencer DeMedal New Wilmgton PA - A do it all athlete for New Wilmington looks destined for the strong safety position. Kid is very physical in the way he plays the game. Listed at 6' 195 and claims offers from SFU, Albany, and Duq to go along with RMU.

Geno Stone New Castle Pa - Could the colonials strike gold twice out of New Castle in DB's Landed Drew Allen three seasons ago. Listed at 6'1 185 this kid is the real deal. Claims 18 offers from the who's who of 1AA football as well as some small MAC level type D1 A schools. Would be a big steal for the colonials but wouldn;t surprise me to see Coach Farison and the defensive coaches pull another local stud out New Castle.

Haraan Ransom Don Bosco Prep NJ - Listed at 6'1 200 out of power house new jersey program Don Bosco so we know competition he faces isnt in question. Looks to be very physical on tape but to me a step slow to play outside. Could be in the mold of the safety the colonials had a couple years ago DJ ( cant remember his last name but out of Central Catholic ) where he plays in the box as a run defender. Claims offers from NEC teams SHU and WAG.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3995836

Kevin Brown Plum PA - Do it all athlete for plum looks to be an explosive KR/PR. Could line up on either side of the ball and make an impact it seems. Looks to be a tad raw though at corner just beating guys with his athleticism.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2730625/kevin-brown

All and All looks like colonials have targeted a couple safety's in recruiting could that have been due to the fact they thought they were losing Smigeria ? I wonder if that changes their approach at all with him returning. Would love to see them land Stone and either Demedal / Muelhbauer but that appears to be a long shot.

Specialist Returning :

P Adam Check JR -
Has really done a nice job this year, would expect for him to push for all league honors next season.
K William Kirch RS Soph - Hasn't seen the field as a RS Frosh will he be the replacement to shennan ?
LS Alex Hundemer Soph - Has stepped in nicely as the long snapper.

The loss of shennan will be felt initially due to the fact you will have a first year kicker out there but all and all not a huge loss.

Specialist Recruited :

Colt McFadden K Poland OH -
6'0 190 Kicker out of the same high school as current colonial Adam Wollett. Seems to have a very strong leg. Timing looks a tad slow but that could be due to the long snapper in highschool / trusting that the ball will be there. Hit from 55 which was a school record via his twitter.

Smigiera is coming back, along with Harrison dreher, and Eric Mcallister. And from what I heard, mccalister was the best lineman in camp, he will be a big upgrade, he had to have shoulder surgery this season which is why he didn't play

The group of receivers could be awesome next year. If, and I have no idea how big of a if this is, Aiden Howard is healthy he will provide a 6'4" receiver with high level FBS talent. Having him on the field to go along with Tim Vechio and one of the small speedsters, plus Reggie Green or Matt Gonzalez should be impressive.. Hopefully we will have a quality, healthy QB to get the ball to these guys.

With regard to recruiting, it seems that at a lot of positions we have good players coming back, the focus appears to be to go after some high quality players to add to the mix. It seems that the coaching staff is making progress in accomplishing that goal.
