A question came to mind while reading this, does anyone know how the scholarships are split between the O and D? Does the D have a lot more than O? I would they would be pretty close, the only thought I'd have it O might have more for QB's.

I don't think it's a money issue. I think it's simply how players are coached and developed on each side of the ball

Due to transfers and injuries, RMU has played a mostly freshmen offensive line this season, and also due to injuries RMU has played a third string QB. If not for those two positions, RMU may be 2-0 at this point. I am not sure you can blame injuries to anything other than bad luck. The transfers, that may be a problem. And, those of us on this site know that transfers have been a major problem for the basketball team as well. We have all heard the excuses that there is not enough to do on campus. Well, Alderson Broaddus is a D-2 school with a tiny enrollment located in a tiny town in West Virginia. I assure you there is more to do at RMU and in Moon Township than there is to do in Philippi, WV. Yet, somehow they are able to retain enough players to defeat our FCS program. This is Coach B's third year, so it is hard to chalk so many losses up to injuries and bad luck. Hopefully, as the young offensive live starts to get comfortable, and our starting QB returns, the Colonials can defeat Malone and win at least half of the NEC games this season. Coach B is a great guy, if I had a son looking to play college football, I would want him to play for Coach B. There are some great coaches on the staff, starting with Coach Farison. This team has enough talent to do well against the teams on its schedule. It's just that so much of the talent is young and/or injured.
I certainly hope Coach B has the opportunity to try to keep this talent together for another year or two, because I think the program could turn around very quickly.

And unfortunately I agree with the article 100% Coach Banaszak is a fantastic person and is a very good position coach. However, he needs to take ownership of the entire team and has not shown the ability to do so. The mismanagement on the offensive side of the ball is astounding. Especially when most people agree that the QB and OLine positions are the most important on the field and they've been either neglected or ignored.

Make no mistake, the Alderson Broaddus loss is the most embarrassing loss in program history. This is a school that played football for the first time in 2012. And it was at the D3 level. This same team lost last week to St Josephs U, who lost to Edinboro the week before. RMU plays Malone coming up, who was also a D3 school not long ago. Last year the Colonials won 3 games. Against an Eastern Tenn team in it's first year that was all freshmen, an average to slightly below average D2 school in Notre Dame College and a Wagner team that did not win a game. And they were all hard fought tough wins. They have now lost 18 of 20 games to a non scholarship Dayton team and while I wasn't there and don't know all of the circumstances, I find it hard to believe many D1 schools not finishing a game due to weather. Would that game have been ended early of it was Youngstown St vs ND State? RMU is at a crossroads as to whether or not they are a D1 FCS program., or a legitimate program at all

Couple things at the article from an outsiders perspective :

1) Where did the author get the statistics regarding the injuries ? I don't see a quote from the SID or the Athletic trainer ? Could this be another case like last year with the men's basketball article from the sentry where a student run newspaper gets ahead of its self and post statistics without any factual information to back it up ?

2) Secondly no mention or credit given to Coach Farison regarding the success of the defense ? Credit given to Banaszak, which would be fine if they were highlighting defensive line play before he took over as head Coach but the lack of overall mention of the assistant head coach / defensive coordinator raises serious questions about the background that went into this article.

3) I know on this board there are early memebers of the program and I mean no disrespect; but the early years of the program they were facing teams like Waynesburg, Gannon, Bethany. Not taking away the success they had but lets face it, a tad different in terms of competition.

4) In the statistical breakdown the author gives for example the part about the defense giving up more than 50+ points a game. I have no problem with this if he would have broken it down more because thats a bit misleading because how many of those points were special teams, pick six's, fumble returns ??

All & All not a good look for the program, Just some thoughts !! Go Colonials

LOL...none taken. The schedule should be tougher in 2016 compared to 1994.
Those individuals played to play football and had a chip on their shoulder about being overlooked by bigger programs.
94-95 schedule was filled with DIII schools. The staff had no idea what kind of kids they were going to land. And remember, RMC didn't launch the football program to have football, they launched it to simply increase enrollment.
In 96, the schedule improved with DII schools, PFL schools, a I-AA team (Towson which RMC won 7-0) and facing a undefeated Dukes team in the ECAC bowl on the road who at that time had the longest winning streak in college football, 19 games.

I'm not sure what your point is with #3. Are you trying to say this is a different brand of Robert Morris football compared to the earlier years?

Guess the point that was trying to be made was that I wish the author had gone into more detail regarding his statistical breakdown comparing schedules i feel is something that should have been included that wasn't a shot at anyone. All the respect in the world the early year guys for all the work and dedication they put in to making the program what it is today.

Just a couple of thoughts from an old retired guy with to much time on his hands !!

No Worries. I agree. It would have been nice to see a table showing the strength of schedule over the years for RMU.

I think you guys are absolutely on the right track with better statistical breakdowns on such a slanderous article would have been good. Maybe the writer and editors of the paper need a few more journalism classes to ensure facts are being presented and vetted when degrading such an influential man and well liked coach by the majority of his previous players.

The article went to great lengths to posturize (literally) John Banaczak. The fact of the matter is he did not inherit a gold mine. If this was Banaczak's 5th or 6th year I could see the discontent, not at year three.

This is a YOUNG team, with a dynamite group of freshman, and a great staff. It will come together just not as fast as many would like (myself included).

The night is always darkest before the dawn. I remember people calling for Butch Davis' head in Miami just before they turned the corner and he assembled one of the best college football teams ever put together.
