The freshman was announced to be transferring after tonight's game by HC Andy Toole.

Thoughts on this by anyone? C-Cappella, J-Frank, Tony R.. Etc?

Also, the second half on today's game sucked. I have no idea what to think of this basketball program currently. Maybe them stinking so bad is making Hugley want to leave.

Please comment...

Yeah I got word of the Hugley transfer a few hours ago...don't know for sure but I think him and toole's relationship was rocky from the start, especially once he couldn't pass his conditioning test. The second half was awful, it's concerning to be honest. Kavon played well, but Elijah was a non factor. Just can't happen

I don't know anything about the Joe Hugley's situation, except that it is not surprising in the least bit that he or anyone else is leaving. RMU loses players continuously every year, some transfer out, some are dismissed from the team or school and some just decide they no longer want to play college basketball. It is not just RMU, it seems common at all levels of college basketball, maybe especially at low D-1 programs. I don't know if RMU is worse than other programs, but it certainly seems to be an epidemic problem for the Colonials. Freshmen leave before even completing their first season, seniors-to-be quit the team, after excellent seasons when the program seems to be on the rise, including after the Kentucky win, players choose to leave. Coach Toole expresses concern about team leadership every year, yet that is obviously going to be a problem when so few players are in the program for four years. I am sure the player turn over is frustrating to the coaches, but it is also frustrating to the fans. If players just come and go, there is less interest for fans to want to attend games.

I agree with all you said. Having Bennett and Gomis this year would have definitely helped this team. Bennett leaving especially was kind of weird since they let him back after his drinking incident. We now don't have enough "big" men and are forced to play Billy Giles (who they say is 6-7, but is probably 6-5 or maybe 6-6 and barely weighs 200 lbs.

I am hoping that David Cole and Braden Burke can come in and help fix our problem down low next year.

Toole now has 2 roster spots available at this point in time with Hugley leaving.
Another Juco guard or transfer from a D1 school would be nice. Then maybe another freshmen wing/guard that can shoot threes as Matty McConnell hasn't been as good at threes or driving to the hoop as anyone thought coming into the season.

The lack of energy and will from the players on this team is concerning and also some of their lack of ability to make free throws at the division 1 level!

The game yesterday was very strange and I don't know really what to think about. Let's just hope they were somewhat hungover from New Year's Eve parties, IDK.

Lastly, the lack of energy is EXTREMELY uncharacteristic of RMU teams in the past and what this program is built on.

Toole needs to recruit players with more heart, but then again, the players need to play with their own person pride and will the team to win.

Go RMU.....
