First I hope everyone on here reading this had a wonderful Christmas/Holiday. I was reviewing the post-gazette online and reviewed those local players named to the Fabulous 22.
Congrats to those players. But there was a item that I continued to read over and over again in many of the write ups about the local players.
A few of the top players listed were labeled as Duquesne recruits. There was no mention of any RMU recruits. I know the staff have offered many of the players locally but to me, RMU is losing the local recruiting battle to Duquesne.
Players listed as "Duquesne recruits"
West:
QB - Brett Brumbaugh [South Fayette]

East:
DB - Mike Nash [Woodland Hills]

South:
None

North:
Ath - P.J. Fulmore [Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic]
WR/DB - D'ondre Gastion [Pine-Richland]

Players that RMU are targeting
West:
OL - Niko Yaramus [Moon]

South:
LB - Ben Bruni [Mt. Lebanon]
OL - Ryan Podgorski [South Park]

There is no doubt that Duquesne has the upper hand right now. RMU needs to do a better job keeping the local talent in the area, and away from Duquesne. This is one reason the Dukes have had more success than RMU on the gridiron the past few years in my opinion.

What is interesting is, on the court, Andy Toole has done a great job keeping local guys like Elijah Minnie and Matty McConnell in the area. The Dukes only have one scholarship local talent on their roster, and that is Micah Mason, a transfer. I'm not saying Andy Toole is takling these guys away, but he's keeping the NEC level talent (and in Minnie's case, higher) home.

Hopefully the football program can land some local talent, and take the lead in the local battle.

Just saw this on twitter:

Missed this when he announced, but West Allegheny RB Chayse Dillon announced a few days ago he has committed to Duquesne. #timesfb

Chris - any update on RMU football recruiting? What are the coaches targeting? Why are they behind the Dukes within the WPIAL?

With signing day approaching, news has been pretty tight-lipped coming out. We'll know more as that date keeps getting closer and closer.

USC LB Marcus Galie committed to St. Francis this morning #WPIAL

West A's Sean Orsini has committed to St Francis

I hope that RMU locks down a good class. Tons of talent in our backyard leaving for other NEC programs.
