Game day - Buffalo

A win, I think, would simply be keeping the game close for at least a half.

Here's what I'd like to see:
- Terence Stephens and Alijah Jackson showing some burst in the running game. The holes may not be there as much, but if they are, can the guys get through them quickly to the second level?
- QB protection. Does George Martin have time to make reads?
- QB accuracy. Even if he has to check down a fair amount because of coverage, can Martin avoid forcing throws and make accurate passes?
- Pressure on the QB. RMU got none last year. It's a revamped defensive line. I'm not expecting the world in Week 1, but even if there are no sacks, can RMU at least get some hurries or redirect some passes? Speaking of...
- Hands on the football. Even if RMU can't get turnovers, can the DBs get some batdowns? Can the DL and LBs get their arms up and knock a pass down? Those plays can become turnovers against other opponents.
- NO INJURIES. Last thing RMU needs is for its newfound depth to be tested.

Compare this game to the James Madison game, and it's a huge leap forward.

I know Buffalo has a lot of new starters on both sides of the ball, but this is definitely refreshing for RMU.

Offense just had a 10+ minute drive against an FBS defense and Matt Gonzalez didn't touch the ball once. Shows a lot of promise.

38-10 final.

I expected a lot worse. 10 of those points came on short field. So Buffalo really only had to drive for 28 points. RMU only gave up 354 yards, which isn't bad.

Probably could've opened it up more on offense, but that may have put Martin at risk. He looked good while keeping it safe.

Only concern is injuries to Lamica and Stanford on the defensive line. Neither looked good, especially Lamica's.

Defense! Needs structure and discipline! Dline held up thru most of game but eventually wore down! Secondary... well all I can I say is wide open! Good show by linebackers but again wore down at end! Overall Let bulls o off the hook too many times!

Offense! Good hard running! Impressive blocking! Few drops by receivers! No tightend action? Excellent showing for Martins first start! Very poised minus fumble!

Special teams played very smart except for blocked punt... Erased by fumble recovery on next kick!

Coaching! Again need more discipline on defense! Questionable play calling on third n one? Later ran ball 3 straight after 20 yd. completion on first down! Mixed it up good overall! Had guys ready to play!

In general... real proud of team and glad to see them hang in for a while! I’ll take 21-10 late in first half before giving up late points!

I’m Ready for league play now! Go bobbymo!

Respectable showing against an FBS program. Now, an opportunity to pick up a few wins!

Did RMU throw any passes in the 2nd half?

Good showing. Better than I thought. It has been a while since we have looked respectable against a team like this (SDSU/JMU).

Lavara does a nice job of mixing it up and we were able to run the ball to some degree against a MAC team. Impressive.

The new safeties help. Having undersized backers is an issue at this level. I'm with another poster in that I prefer faster and athletic backers but Buffalo's oline averages 315lbs. across the board and our backers are in the 200lbs. range. At some point physics takes over.

Soupy! Right over the ball and jumps twice in the same series. That will kill a dline coach. That let them off the hook and allowed a TD. I also hope Stanford and Lamica are ok. We are already thin there.

Do not let this be a fluke. There are no moral victories. Take care of Kentucky State. No let downs. Get better.

I liked what I saw... Don’t understand why we didn’t load up to take the run away. They weren’t connected WR/QB. They hit the one busted play. Short field scores made the score look worse than it was. Still waiting to see O go up top 2 three times a game. Overall RMU showed promise against a young tough team. Get a hold on those penalties tho. Drive killers.
