Figured I would open a thread for updates from camp for anybody who has attended and checked out how they look:

-heard a couple significant injuries today, Andy smigiera and Jimmy masson, any update on how severe?

-also glad to see that these freshman lineman coming in are as good as expected, that will definitely help whatever quarterback wins the job

OL play was mixed up again today
Rene at LT
Blake at LG ( the only constant)
Mundy at C
Garbines back at RG ( Potokar wasn't seen today)
Fennell at RT

It's a full fledged dance

I stopped up for a little bit, the defense has 4 fresh starters this year. Ferguson and Tyler lamica at outside and utahafe and Adam Wollett in the middle. 3 of those 4 had significant time last season but all are new starters. Defensive line is Ryan Lewis, Zamiska, and probably freshman Chris Stanford. Trgovich has a concussion I believe

TyB,
How'd the OL look today did Lamb get in? How'd the Young Guns at OL look?

Who was the QB with the most reps?

I was only there for about 25 minutes and they didn't run offense vs defense. They just lined up and did plays with those guys. Barr was with the first unit though

Was there this morning Garbs(RG) is back in playing next to Fennell(RT). Rene at LT Blake at RG and Mundy at C. Backs all looked good and QBs looked good. This offense made Barr look good and the RBs are running down hill. It's a well called situational offense utilizing the strenghths. The young OL did really well on 1on1 run blocking moving some of the upperclass DL starters well off the ball. This afternoon practice I heard the ran for 2 untouched TDs off the right side. Nice plays in skully by the DBs

No scrimmage today due to worring about injuries. They did practice to a thud and it got a little chippy with the young OL and some upperclassmen. The young gun didn't back down either. It's a pretty strong dynamic going on right now in the few times I've seen the practices. A lot of freshman are getting 1st team reps and the upperclassmen have accepted that in order to succeed this group has a lot of talent and may put some good talent on the field.

The QBs and WRs looked good today during team and skully a lot of passes caught in stride, a lot of short yardage passes letting the WR group show their wiggle.

The RBs are catching a lot of balls too. They are adjusting well to this pro style offense and getting the timing down for hitting the holes and at the right angles.

The defense always looks a little off in thud because they can't tackle so it's hard to judge. The LB core looks strong getting to the ball on pass plays.

Now the one thing that's good or bad is this. When you go thud up front your still live and here is the good or bad item of discussion...The OL is this as of most recent practice
LT-RENE
LG-BLAKE
C-IAN
RG-GARBS
RT-FENNELL
So it's older in the Middle and young on the edge but both rookies look to be not only holding their own but really making an impact. The problem is these guys are looking good and driving the DL off the ball in running plays. To the point as I stated before the DL was feeling pushed around and went at it with the young Fennell. He responded by driving a DE 5yds off the ball on his next snap and sliding to a LB for seconds. It was fun to watch.

It's sure is fun to watch I think we as fans will be pleasantly surprised. Strong QB game management could get us a lot further than some expect.

1st one was cancelled last week due to injuries. I'm doubting it now.

Any new injuries this week? What's the starting lineup shaping up to be? We only have a few days left of camp

Heres what i have noticed after attending a couple practices this camp season : Note Week One could be different due to a couple of guys being out but for the sake of this ill go with the whole year.

Note : this is just my opinion after viewing a few practices :

QB - Barr

FB - Looks like two man race between Blake Skuratowicz & Jon Wanat

RB - Ram / Satcher / Woods

WR- Delano Madison / Warren Robinson

WR- Kyle Buss / Timmy Vecchio is the real deal look for him to make an impact

TE - Saw a lot of # 88 Reggie Greene working with the ones. With Lamica repping as well.

LT- Rene Rodreguiz the young freshman looked good in one on ones does look like he needs to add a couple LB'S though.

LG - Blake Chambliss - Old reliable

C - This is the question mark, when attending the early part of camp looked like conner mundy was the guy. Last time out looked like Mike Lamb taking over the center position.

RG- Drew Garbenis - is this the year where we see the big fella put it all together

RT - Matt Fennell - The young Freshman seems to be the real deal, expect some growing pains though like with any young freshman.

Overall : If this group of Oline can protect barr look for the colonial offense to be leaps and bounds better than in the last two years. Can Matt Barr cut down of the turnovers and really take control of the Offense ?

Defense :

A couple players have stood out to me in the practices I have attended :

Marcellius Branch - Kid is the real deal wouldn't surprise me to see him get a shot on sundays kid is just a PLAYER.

Ryan Lewis - Wow has this kid been through a body transformation, wouldnt surprise me to see him work his way to an all league player this year.

Adam Wollet / Joe Uhatafe - The two seem to be on there way to easing the pain of losing a Mike Stock / Jake T. Both player with power and smarts.

Overall - The defense seems positioned to spear head the colonial turnaround. Talent at all three levels

Yes very well done. I like the make up of the o line. Garbs, Blake, and lamb across the middle are gonna be difficult for any defensive lineman to move. And I feel fennell at right tackle is gonna be a premier tackle for a few years to come. My only fear is that the height of the lineman across the middle, 6'5, 6'6, and 6'5 are gonna make it difficult for Barr or brumbaugh to see his receivers down the field

Hopefully they play low and not 6'5" or we will have bigger problems....I know what you mean just having fun.

I was at the night practice on Saturday. Here are some of the things I saw out there.

QB - Barr got the call with the 1st team. His RT arm was a little sore (tricep) so his reps were limited before his night was over. Andrew Romanchak came in as the #2 and took the next reps. Joe Carroll also came in and had some good balls.

RB - it was Satcher taking the 1st reps with Wells taking reps too. Blake is done for the season and Ram was dressed but didn't practice.

WR/TE - lots of new faces. Youth could make a big impact here.

OL - Lamb out w/a concussion. Should be back soon. McAllister out with a shoulder injury, waiting on results from xrays.
LT - Rodriguez
LG -Potokar (Blake out for the 1st game)
C - Bjuro
RG - Garbenis
RT - Fennell
Now they were rotating OL at different positions for any mistakes.
Coaches, especially Mike Miller, are pressing the players to play mistake free.

Defense is a controlled mess right now.
DL is set with their rotations. Ryan Lewis could be a monster in the NEC.
With Mason out at OLB, it opens up the spot for Cooper or Tyler Lamica. Lamica getting 1st team reps and he can play!!! Ferguson looks like a man out there.
Uhatafe and Wollet are going to be great ILBs starting this season.

DBs - interesting shuffle job here. Smigera out and Ryan Richards not dressed. Marcelis Branch was back playing Safety making all the calls. The other safety with him was Jonah Libson.
The DBs were all taking reps.

Other Notes:
Austin Trgovich is no longer a Colonial.

A new WR has been added to the team. Aidan Howard of Gateway who committed to Virginia for this class is now a Colonial. He was on the field with the team but it workout clothes. He enrolled early at UVA but left after one week of camp. Something has hazing in the locker room where players were getting beat up by upper class-men.

Injuries are hurting the team and the coaches during camp. They have had no choice but to limit some practices. I don't think the team has had a full scrimmage yet with actual tackling.

Who Caught My Eye?
TE - Reggie Green.
While he got banged up a little at practice, he is special. He is going to be a major weapon this season.
Athlete - Nic Lamica
Athlete? He is going to play a hybrid position of a FB and TE on offense. And he is going to be used on D as an additional rusher in certain packages. He is banged up right now and didn't practice so they need to get him heathy again.
DB - Travon Scott
If the 1st game was tomorrow, I think the coaches would be very comfortable with him out there. He is going to be a lock down corner.
WR - Tony Vecchio
I didn't watch much of the one-on-ones but this is coming from other players (upper class-men) after he makes a catch on how good he is going to be.

Coach Mike Miller
He is pushing this offense. He is in everyone's butt players and coaches. He demands your attention, to know your plays and never talk back. Some players on Saturday night learned the hard way to never talk back to any coach especially Miller.
