Has to be one of the tallest rosters in RMU history. 7 of the 12 eligible scholarship players are listed at 6'6" or taller.
The two graduate transfers have accomplished almost nothing on the D-1 level in the past, but hopefully, between the two, plus David Cole, the Colonials will come up with someone to defend the basket, get some rebounds and score some points inside. If none of those three steps up, I expect that Malik Petteway will fill that role. I expect that he will be in the starting lineup from the start of the season, preferably at PF, but if needed, at center.
Point guard is another position the Colonials will need someone to step up early. I believe Ashmeade played point guard on the juco level. If he can play that position at the D-1 level he will give RMU the advantage of a 6'4" player at that position. Jon Willians is a solid PG prospect but generally, most true freshmen are not ready to be the starter at that position. Leondre Washington, another true freshman, should contribute this season, but I suspect he will do so more at SG than PG. Matty, with his court vision and passing ability, certainly could play the point, rather than his usual SG.
I expect to see improvement in both Matty and Dachon, both in leadership and shooting this season. Both have worked hard in the off season.
If the Colonials can get the center and point positions figured out this could be a good season, as they have enough talent to fill in the other three positions.
